He brought my hand close to his shoulder and let go to meet his other hand on my hip. I placed both my hands behind his neck. Our bodies were almost touching when he used his hands to pull me in even closer. We were as close as we could get. I could feel the heat of his body as he began to move to the rhythm of the song. He placed his forehead against mine and closed his eyes. The music playing from his phone in the bed of the truck ended before I wanted this moment to seize. I was waiting for him to pull away with the end of the song, but he continued to sway as he lifted his head and looked down at me. "I'm sorry your prom was ruined."
"It wasn't ruined. This is one night that will go down in the history books." We both laugh and I take my eyes away from his and look out over the city lights.
"You can sure say that again. I'll have the pain for a few days to remind me."
I bring my eyes back to his. "I cannot believe you were arguing with the doctor about taking pain killers." I laughed.
He swung his head back and let out a defeated laugh. "No pain no gain." He brought his eyes back to meet mine. He took one hand off my hip and sweetly nudged me to sit on the tailgate. Trying to get up in that thing with a floor length dress on was irritating. We sat against the back of the cab and looked over the view. "I kind of wished we stuck around to figure out what that fight was over."
"I'm telling you it probably was over a girl."
"What makes you so sure?"
"What have you always gotten into a fist fight over?" He looked away from me and out over the view.
"I guess you're right. Have you ever been in a fight before?"
"No."
"Why not?" He asked with a smile on his face.
"Because I haven't had to be in one." I laughed and he smiled. We sat in silence for the next few minutes while looking out over the night sky.
