Merry Christmas! I texted Logan knowing that I wouldn't get a response. He was not expected to be home for another four weeks. I hadn't heard anything from him or even about him.
I placed the phone back on the night stand and uncovered myself. The bruises from the crash still showed on my legs. The crash was only two weeks ago and we walked away with only some nasty bruises, and a lightly sprained shoulder.
I had to stay in the hospital for two days so the doctors could observe me. My right leg was wrapped in bandages to help sturdy the knee. Besides a limp and an almost healed shoulder, I was perfectly fine.
"Good morning beautiful. Merry Christmas!" My mom smiled when I walked into the kitchen.
"Merry Christmas!" I smiled back at her, walking over to give her a kiss on the cheek. We sat in the kitchen and talked while we waited for the rest of the family to wake up.
She continued to ask me how I was feeling and was hesitant to let me drive anywhere after the crash. When David and Sue finally woke up, we went to the living room where the tree stood lighted, surrounded by multicolor of lights. We began to open presents that we all had gotten for each other.
Once everyone had finished opening the presents, my mom walked into the living room carrying a brown box. "Theresa, this came in the mail last week." I gave her a confused smile and took the box from her hands. The return address was from Georgia and no name.
My entire family watched as I ripped the "Do not open till Christmas" tape off the flaps. I opened the box to find a red envelope sitting on top of a smaller black velvet box. I open the envelope and pull the postcard out. The beautiful Georgia landscape was pictured perfectly. I turned the thick piece of paper over in my hands and read what was written on the back.
Theresa,
It has been a long few weeks. Seeing and telling you about it when I return (on January 27th) is the reason I continue. The entire time I have been here, I have not been able to stop thinking about you.
Merry Christmas Theresa. I hope you enjoy your gift.
Logan.
P.S. Your other gift will be delivered when I return!
"Who is it from?" David asked.
"It's from Logan." I reached into the box and pulled out the smaller box. I opened it to find a wooden watch with a black leather band sitting perfectly in the center. The watch was beautiful and unique.
"Theresa, that's beautiful." My mom said when she sat next to me on the couch.
"It is, isn't it?" I couldn't stop smiling while I put the watch on my wrist.
