"Good morning." Dan's rich accent greeted as I sat up from my slumber.
"Good morning." I responded not nearly as enthusiastic as his.
"I thought you ladies deserved something more than just some cold cereal so I found where the hotel hid their waffle makers and made you something warm to eat." He said as he sat a tray containing a stack of waffles onto the table.
"That is so thoughtful." Rachel said as she reached from the couch and grabbed a pancake off the stack. Dan looked at her as she pulled the pancake apart and placed it into her mouth. He sat down next to her and smiled while putting his arm on the back of the couch behind her. She leaned in and fed him a piece of waffle.
"We need to venture out today. I'm tired of being inside." Sara said as she walked over and grabbed a waffle and then falling back onto the couch where I had slept. I reached over and grabbed one of the waffles extremely hungry.
"I agree." Dan inserted.
"What should we do?" I asked as I took another bite from the waffle.
"What if we bundle up and try to find a place to go sledding?" Rachel said excitingly.
"Darling, what would we sled with?" Dan asked as he looked down at her. There was a pause while we waited for someone to come up with an idea.
"There are the boogie boards and stuff in that closet we found last night when we were looking for the kitchen." I suggested.
"Theresa, you are a genius!" Sarah exaggerated and took the last bite of her pancake.
Everyone met back in the lobby once we changed into our larger warmer clothes. Dan put his jacket and beanie back on. We grabbed boogie boards and an inflatable pool toy that was in the shape of a swan and walked to the glass door.
Dan pried it open and we got out into the unwelcoming snow. We walked towards the beach where there would be a better hill. Once we reached the beach it was obvious that the large waves could not be frozen by the cold and continued to crash in the shore. We spent the next few hours playing around on the hill using the boogie boards and inflatables to carry us over the white snow.
Once we returned to the hotel we placed the boogie boards back into the closet and removed our wet clothes and replaced them with new warmer ones. When we returned to the lobby, Dan started a new fire. "Let's go to the top floor and see if we can see anything. It is kind of creepy that we haven't seen another person all day." I suggested.
We all got on the elevator and made it to the fourteenth floor to overlook the city. The doors were locked, but the massive windows at the end of the hallways allowed for enough of a view.
"I don't see anything." Sara said as she looked from one end of the hallway.
"Same. The roads are still just covered in snow for as far as I can see." Rachel yelled back at her. We started to walk back towards the elevators to return to the lobby where we would spend the night once more. We were unsure where the guy at the front desk was. He probably had abandoned us and we were not going to see him again. "Hopefully we don't run out of stuff before we can leave."
"I'm pretty sure they have enough food to last us a while." Sara reassured her.
"No. I mean like clothes to wear and stuff."
"If it comes to that there has to be a place they wash their blankets and stuff. We would just have to find where that is. I don't think it will get that bad though." I said hoping to reassure her. "So it looks like things with Dan are moving along smoothly."
"He is quite the gentleman. I think I may start liking him." She smiled as she pushed the button for the elevator turning her head to hide her blushing cheeks.
"He seems like it. He also seems to have a thing for you too." I winked back at her as we got onto the elevator.
"You think so?"
"She's right. He really does." Sara inserted. The remainder of the night was like the last. Everyone fell asleep earlier than me. I fell asleep to the noise of the fire and the crashing of the waves. Loudest of them all were the thoughts of Logan that kept me awake.
