I open my eyes to find us sitting in the middle of the exit not moving. I squint my eyes as a loud ringing floods my ears. I look over to see Alyssa unconscious with her head resting against the exploded airbag. I sit up from the airbag with a weird feeling in my head. Everything seems cloudy. I push the airbag back away from my own face. "Alyssa." I try to wake her, but can barely get her name out. I reach for my pocket where my phone was waiting. I pulled it out and tried my hardest to clear the blurry surrounding to dial 911.

"What is your emergency?" A male voice on the other side of the phone asked.

"The car crashed. Into the guardrail. Exit 14." Talking is difficult. I could taste blood in my mouth. "She's unconscious." I say as I look over at Alyssa.

"We are GPS-ing your location. Help is on the way. Can you see any smoke coming from the car?"

I take my eyes off of Alyssa's unresponsive body and looked to the front of the car. "No." I responded. The entire world seems to be in slow motion.

"Are you hurt?"

I look down at my body still sitting in the passenger seat. "I don't think so."

"An ambulance has been sent to your location. Are you out of harm's way?"

"We are in the middle of an exit." Without thinking I unbuckle and get out of the car. I knew I shouldn't move Alyssa, but I knew that I couldn't just sit here and let another car hit us by coming around the turn. I put the phone back into my pocket and limp up to the top of the exit. Because it was so late, there were only a few cars. The racing cars were flying by the exit answering my prayers that no one would come down. I pulled my phone from my pocket and turned on the flashlight. I started waving the light in the air hoping that drivers would get the hint to not use the exit. A cop turned on his lights and pulled up to where I was standing.

"Ma'am what are you doing?" He screamed when he stops the car. He just stared at me, as I tried to gather my words.

"The car..." I begin to say as I point down the exit. Before I could finish he moved the flashing police car to block the exit.

"Theresa." A familiar voice said as I open my eyes only to shut them again to adjust them to the light. "Theresa." The voice repeats. I open my eyes to find Alyssa standing over me.

"Alyssa?" I question as I try and sit up.

"Theresa. I am so sorry."

"What is going on?" I question confused.

"We were in a car crash."

"I know, but how did I get here?"

"Apparently you got out of the car and collapsed." She smiled at me. "Theresa, this is all my fault."

"What?"

"I was driving too fast and the icey roads didn't combine so nicely."

"Are you ok?" I look over at her.

She laughs and looks down at me. "Yes I'm fine. The doctor said you are going to be fine too."

"What day is it?" I asked trying to grasp an understanding of what was going on.

"It is Wednesday morning." She answered.

"Did I pass my final exam?" I asked. She laughed at my question and I couldn't help but laugh too. She handed me my phone from the table to allow me to look at my grade.

"Your family literally just left to grab something from the cafeteria."

"Did they seem ok?" I asked as I clicked the reload button.

"Why do you keep asking how other people are when you're the one in the hospital bed?" She smiled.

"My mom will overreact."

"She was, but when the doctor reassured her she started to calm down. I don't want her to hate me."

"It was the ice." I smile at her.

"Yeah, but I shouldn't have been going as fast as I was."

"I don't blame you Alyssa. I'm just happy we are ok!" The page finally loads on my phone. I let out a scream. "I got an A in biology!" I said and put the phone back on the side table.

"God!Theresa, you can't do that!" Alyssa holds her hand over her heart recoveringfrom my scream.
