The buzzing of my alarm woke me up. I did not hesitate to uncover myself and throw clothes on before walking into my sister's room and waking her up. David was already in the bathroom taking a shower.
I poured a bowl of cereal and sat at the wooden table waiting for my little sister to come ask me to do her hair. Logan was coming back today! I have spent the last two months waiting for this day. When I saw him I would give him the largest hug that I could. I have imagined his arms around me since the moment he left.
"Theresa. Can we do braids today?" Her innocent smile was bright as she walked out into the kitchen carrying her hairbrush.
"Braids!" I exaggerated as to make her smile. "Would you like pig tail braids or one braid."
"One braid." She giggled into her hand.
"Ok. Come on over here." I waved her over and took the brush from her hand.
"Theresa. Since mom and dad are gone can I go over Rose's house?"
"Now you know mom doesn't like you going over your friend's house on school nights."
"It can be our secret."
"Hmm... Ok, but you have to pinky promise." I held out my pinkie and she wrapped her tiny pinkie around mine. "If you tell now I will have to brake your pinkie." Her eyes got wide and took the brush back to her room.
"Hey. You ready to go Sue?" David asked as he called back to the room where she had just returned. "Hey Theresa. I am going to sleep over Sean's tonight."
"What is it with you two wanting to break the rules?" I laughed. They both looked at me waiting for me to force them both to stay at home. "You both can, but they can't find out." I grabbed my phone and keys off the table and we all walked out the front door. After thirty minutes of traffic I dropped them both off at the school and drove to work.

The work day went by quickly. I continually checked my phone waiting for Logan to text me. By the time I had to pick up David and Sue from the school I had checked my phone over fifty times. I walked out to the car and pulled my phone out from my pocket to check it one more time before putting it in the cup holder. I dropped David off at his friend's house before taking Sue to Rose's. I turned off the car and walked her to the front door to make sure that it was still ok with Rose's mom. "You ok staying here for a few hours?"
"Yes." I bent down and gave her a hug before the door opened.
"Hi Theresa."
"Hi. I just wanted to make sure it was still alright for Sue to spend a few hours here."
"Oh of course. Rose said she had invited Sue, but I told her not to get her hopes up."
"Yeah, my parents are out of town for the week."
"Well Sue is welcome to stay. Thank you for bringing her over."
"Have a good one."
"You too." She closed the door as I began to walk back towards the car. I grabbed my phone and hit the power button again to look at a blank screen. My hopes raised too high ass I saw an announcement from my Zoology teacher.
With a deep breath I opened the email to see what they wanted. The professor wanted to meet with me and asked that I come to the campus to discuss further. I replied and started to drive to the campus as my heart raced wondering why my professor wanted to talk to me. Was I failing? I didn't think so?
Once I arrived at the campus I went straight to the Science building where I spent most of my time. My professor's office was on the first floor and I waited outside as she finished up with another student. "Theresa. Come in, Please." She waved her hand for me to sit down in the empty chair. This was not going to be good.
"So I have a position available for a lab technician over the summer and I was wondering if you were interested in the position?" Thank God I was not failing!
"Oh, really? That's awesome. What is the lab studying?" I asked as relief flood my body. After twenty minutes of discussing what I would be doing I accepted the position and left, only to have to be back early for class tomorrow morning.
As I walked out the science buildings glass doors a hand landed on my shoulder. I turned to see Cory standing there. He was in my study group last semester and we always had a good time! "Cory!" I smiled as we both went in for a hug. "Man, it's so weird not having you in my classes!"
"Tell me about it. I have the worst professors this semester!" He laughed and looked down at his phone. "Sorry, but I have to get to my last class!"
"Go! Have fun!" He leaned in and gave me another hug. As he pulled away we gave a reassuring smile to each other.
