Siana gave Min a dirty look. They were sitting outside a cafe taverna in Monastiraki, waiting for their meal to arrive. The area was a collection of streets in the old quarters of Athens, nestled near the foot of the Acropolis. Once poor and dirty, it had become a tourist haven, lined with shops that were either local hardware suppliers and businesses or tourist traps. Its charm lay in its ramshackle appearance and its bohemian roots.
They had chosen to come here because the cafe was just outside the Monastiraki metro station and they wanted to avoid the more hyped-up cafe strips. Because it was at the end of one of the smaller roads coming off the station square, there was less foot-traffic here, but still much to see and watch.
The weather was warm for a winter's night, which was one of the reasons why Siana had agreed to wearing the heels. And another reason why she was giving Min the stink eye.
"What? I get cold," Min said, shrugging her shoulders and stretching out her legs. Siana looked down at Min's feet, which were nicely shod with a pair of lace-up leather boots. No heels.
"They suit my look, don't be funny about it," Min scoffed, immediately sitting up when their food arrived, borne on the muscular arms of their handsome waiter. Min smiled up at him appreciatively. He responded warmly, making Siana smirk at Min, who turned her attention back to the food with a smile on her face.
Min was right, the boots complemented her look, which seemed to have a jenny-on-the-block vibe that suited Min very well. With her curly black hair and gorgeous dark skin, it accentuated her curves and brought attention up to her large, seductive eyes and fabulous cheekbones.
Min had grown up in nearby Singapore but had made Kuala Lumpur her home after she started working. They had met through mutual friends and become close through an implicit understanding: being close did not have to mean being together all the time. Siana had few friends or family members who understood that. With Min, getting together after long periods apart always felt good because there were no hang ups about not paying close attention to each others' lives. They simply took up where they last left off.
So for Min to immediately pick up a change in Siana's behaviour was not surprising to Siana, and offered her an opportunity to catch her up real quick to her time with Leo in the two weeks between seeing each other. She tried to keep it brief, but when it came to explaining the details about their footage fiasco, it took a while.
"And just before they left, Panos told me there was a possibility that the footage was still in the hands of the original recorder. You know, of us. By the water." Siana looked down shyly.
Min had listened, patiently, all the while standing in front of her with her heels in her hand.
Never one to hold back on her thoughts, she looked Siana up and down appraisingly.
"Love and lust by the sea, all caught on camera. I didn't think you were the type, Banana." Min shook her head with an eyebrow raised as Siana chuckled and covered her face with her hands.
"And they're here in town? And you haven't contacted him to let him know you're here? And he hasn't contacted you? Hmmm." Min cocked her hip and crossed her arms.
"You're going to respect the hell out of each other or something, is that what this is?"
Siana laughed, seeing Min's point. Although Min now knew the situation with the footage, Siana knew she wasn't one to consider that a problem at all.
"We're both concerned for each other, that's all," Siana mumbled. Min rolled her eyes.
"Leave that to all the gossipers, they have plenty of concern for things like that! You guys should be having fun! You should be waving at those paparazzi fans, not hiding from them, jeez!" Min flopped down onto a bed and looked at Siana with a frown.
