Cole's POV:
It's been over a month since Myra, Rose, and Ben left on their quest. I haven't really gotten much sleep or eaten much for about a month either. Everyone says I seem off. I guess I have been, I don't really talk to anyone unless I have to. And even then, it's usually a short conversation. I miss her so much, my life seems meaningless without her. I keep getting this feeling in the pit of my stomach that won't go away. Hopefully, they'd all be back soon. I couldn't wait to see Myra. Once I see her, I will hug her and never let go. I can't let her go. I heard people shouting and gathering around. I ran to get close enough to see. I could see Rose... Ben... but... where?... I ran up to Rose and grabbed her hand taking her away from the crowd. Ben was hurt, at least he seemed so from what I could see, so Will and a few other kids took him straight in the direction of the infirmary. I had to ask about Myra, but Rose was also on the quest, so I guess I should ask about her first. "Rose, how are you? How was it?" I asked quickly hoping for a quick response.
"Uh... Cole..." she said nervously.
"It's about Myra isn't it? Where is she?"
"..."
"Rose, where is she."
"I- I'm sorry Cole."
"W-what do you mean? Where is she, Rose."
"I honestly don't know right now. She didn't make it out of the castle with us."
"No... no we have to go back. Right now, come on." I turned to run, but Rose grabbed my arm before I could get anywhere.
"It's too dangerous. We need to plan. I know we can't leave her, Cole. But for now... that's our only option. We're not prepared to go back now. I literally just got here, but once we rest up, you, Ben, and I will go back. I promise. Just give it time, Cole." She tried to say calmly in order to calm me down. I didn't budge.
"No, then I'll go myself. We can't just leave her there, Rose! Imagine what Khione will do to her, Rose! I-I can't just leave her there!"
"I know I know, but we'll all die if we go now, Cole. Myra wouldn't want that, okay?" She grabbed my shoulders shaking me lightly. I started to calm down, but I felt something wet on my face. I'd started crying at some point. I immediately dropped to the ground putting my face in my hands. Rose comforted me, but it wasn't the same. I wanted Myra here.
"How long?" I finally spoke up after calming down a bit.
"I'm not sure, but the second Ben is better and we're all rested up, we'll head out and plan on the way. We didn't even finish the quest... oh gods." She said shocked.
"What." I asked getting scared.
"I-I just remembered something Myra said. She said that you were actually supposed to be on that quest. That's how we're supposed to finish it, Cole. This will all work out, ok? This time you'll be with us, so it'll work. I know it."
"You really think so? I mean if Myra said it, I believe it. But, do you think we can all make it through this?"
"Eh, I'm like 80% sure it'll work. Better than nothing though." She smiled weakly.
"You've been hanging out with Myra a lot haven't you?" I smirked.
"That obvious?" She rose an eyebrow.
"Definitely." I smiled at the thought. I missed hearing Myra's sarcastic, smart-ass remarks.
"Ok, come on. Let's go check on Ben. And then let's get something real to eat. I've been eating breakfast burritos and rabbits for a month straight. I need pancakes or something." Myra loved pancakes... I shook off the thought that would definitely sound a lot more stupid if said out loud. I followed Rose to the infirmary where Ben was. Will was, seemingly, finishing up stitching up a gash on Ben's arm. Once he was finished, he saw that we were standing there waiting and rushed over to Rose checking her for injuries. "Hey, Will I'm good. I healed myself, ok?" She chuckled a bit. He simply nodded still checking just in case and then hugged her when he realized she was alright.
"Rose, where's Myra? I need to check her too." That hurt a lot when he said it. I felt wounded already, nothing like another stab in the chest.
"She's still at Khione's, Will. She didn't make it out. But we're going back for her, don't worry." She said the last part quickly, probably because I was standing right there and she thought I was still fragile, which I was.
"Oh gods... ok I can't worry about this now, I have to get Ben something for the pain." He said rushing around. He got Ben a cup of water and a lot of pills. He took them without hesitation, although it seemed like a lot to give one person. After a minute, he was out. Rose looked at Will.
"Did he just OD or something?" Will laughed.
"No, he's just unconscious at the moment. Nothing to worry about." Rose still had a worried look on her face as she took a seat next to Ben, feeling his pulse. She seemed to find one because she got up and walked back over to me. She told me we should get something to eat and then we headed over to the Pavilion. We didn't have any pancakes, but we did have some chicken and fries. Rose literally devoured her food, which reminded me a little of Myra, but I brushed off the thought and ate my own food. I ate everything because I didn't want Rose to think something was wrong. Once we finished our rather silent meal, Rose yawned loudly and then began talking again.
"I'm going to go get some sleep now, you should too Cole. You look terrible. Have you slept at all for this past month?" I stayed silent, looking down at my empty plate. "Cole?"
"Well... how could I?! I've been worried sick! How could someone even get a minute of sleep when they're a worried wreck!?" I broke and started yelling. I wasn't mad at Rose, I was just getting too worked up. Too much was happening all at once and I just couldn't handle it. Rose patted my back comfortingly, which helped to calm me down a bit.
"Hey, Cole. Please, go get some sleep. We're back now and I'm sure Myra is fine. Khione is probably just training her or something." She didn't seem too sure of herself, but said it anyhow.
"Ok ok, I'll try..." I lied. I knew I wouldn't be getting a blink of sleep until Myra was safe and with me. Rose seemed to be able to see right through me.
"I don't believe you, Cole. I'm gonna have your siblings keep an eye on you to make sure you get some sleep. I don't care what you say, so don't try to protest, I'm too tired to do all of that right now." I simply nodded, not wanting to fight, and she headed in the direction of my cabin. She talked to all of my siblings that were in there and then smiled at me, leaving and heading to her own cabin. I slowly got into bed and laid my head on my pillow. I wasn't sure how to get to sleep, so I tried to just think of something peaceful. Well, peaceful to me. I thought of Myra coming back and us eating pancakes together... with her being sarcastic about every little thing. Her laughing at anything and everything. Especially if someone got hurt. With these thoughts in my head I quickly fell asleep, of course, dreaming about her. She's my light in this cruel, dark world.
