Myra's POV:
I watched the sunrise while leaning against a tree with Cole's head in my lap. Earlier in the night he had woken up and started crying while I was patrolling around the area. When I came back he was hugging his knees and hiding his face. Whenever I asked him what it was about, he just kept saying he couldn't remember. I managed to calm him down, but I was worried. Cole would be so much safer if he was back at Camp right now. Maybe we could've gone to Khione's castle and just picked him up before we opened the gates. I kissed him on the cheek and watched him slowly open his eyes.
"Frostbite?" Cole mumbled groggily. I ran a hand through his messy, blond hair, which was sticking up in several different directions.
"You gotta wake up for me so I can get everyone else up, okay?" I spoke softly. Cole who was still half asleep, nodded and sat up, stretching. I got up and stretched too, before walking over to Nathan and Rose. I needed to know how last night had gone. I didn't hear any yelling, but was that a good thing or a bad thing? Ben could've used charmspeak on her. I woke up Nathan first.
"Myra?"
"Yeah it's me. Time to get up."
"Go away." Nathan buried his face in Rose's neck. I summoned some snow at my fingertips and shoved it down the back of his shirt. Nathan immediately shot up, eyes wide with alarm. I started laughing hysterically. Nathan glared at me and shook the snow out of his shirt. Rose sat up, looking confusedly at the two of us.
"Myra? What did you do?" She yawned and crossed her arms, obviously not awake enough to deal with me.
"Me? Commit a crime? Rose! I am completely innocent!" I dramatically exclaimed, waving my hands around.
"Yeah, okay. Nathan what did she do?"
"She put snow down the back of my shirt and now I'm cold." He whined. "Maybe you could warm me up?" Nathan gave Rose a hopeful look. Rose just rolled her eyes and gave him a quick hug.
"Rose? Could we just talk for a second?" I asked anxiously, wanting to know about last night.
"Yeah sure." She stood up and we walked out of earshot.
"How did everything go last night? Are you okay? Did he use charmspeak on you?! Wait you wouldn't know if he did..." I started asking rapid fire questions, while nervously looking her over for any injuries.
"Oh gods, Myra. Calm down, I'm fine. It actually went pretty well..." Rose said and nervously shuffled her feet.
"Are you sure? Are you hiding something from me? I want to know what happened. Full detail." I instructed, taking a step back.
"Well... we just talked. I told him how I felt about everything and he tried to explain things a little better. And he... he felt really bad... he uh. He actually..." Rose trailed off, looking at her feet.
"What did he do?" I asked, trying to look her in the eyes.
"He swore on the Styx that he'd never hurt me like that again." Rose said quickly.
"Haha... very funny. Now what really happened?" I rolled my eyes. A Styx promise could kill if it was broken.
"I'm not lying, Myra. That's exactly what happened." I could hear a hint of irritation in Rose's voice. I ignored it in shock of what Ben had done.
"He swore on the Styx?! If he breaks that... that's basically a death sentence..." I muttered. Sure he could keep it for awhile, but as the years pass on. If he forgets and hurts her...
"What, you think he'll break it?" She glared at me. I didn't respond for a minute, trying to find a nice way to voice my concerns.
"I have trust issues." I confessed uncomfortably. Rose didn't seem impressed.
"I understand that but... I don't know, this just helps me to trust him again. Cause if he does... then he knows what'll happen." She looked over at Ben's sleeping form with a small smile on her face. I felt my heart sink. Ben was a nice guy, but I still had trouble trusting him after everything that had happened between us. He had manipulated me for months without a second thought. He could've dropped me off at Camp and explained everything before looking for Rose, but instead he dragged me along on his wild goose chase. He lied right to my face countless times. No matter what, I would always be in his debt because of Cass and that scared me.
"I guess... I just... Ben doesn't think right when he's angry..." I stuttered. I had no idea how to tell Rose I didn't trust Ben. How do you tell your best friend you don't trust the boy she likes? We still didn't know each other all that well.
"Trust me. I know that, Myra." Rose ran a hand through her hair.
"I know, I know. If you trust him then I guess I do too." I huffed in defeat. Rose glared at me.
"Why do you seem so against this? Do you want me to be angry at Ben still?" She snapped. Her tone had become harsher and I took a step back.
"Of course not! I just worry, alright? That's practically my job." I defended myself. Ugh! How come I always mess everything up? I just want to protect her! She's my friend and I have to look out for her.
"Yeah, okay. I'm gonna go wake Ben up." Rose stalked off. Leaving me to stand there awkwardly alone.
"Alright..." I sighed in frustration. I grabbed my stuff and waited for everyone to get ready. Rose and Ben were talking and so were Nathan and Cole. I watched them all talking happily. Everyone was still half asleep and relaxed. For a moment I felt a twinge of jealousy. I wanted to go back to Camp, but instead we were only a few days off from Khione's castle. Where my memories had been wiped, I had been mercilessly tortured, and I had become a killer. I could feel a small pain in my chest. I always felt out of place, but right now I was lonelier than ever.
"I think everyone is all set to go, Frostbite!" Cole smiled widely at me.
"Ben's leading." I said flatly.
"What?" He asked, incredulously.
"I said, Ben is leading." I snapped. Cole gave me a concerned look. I instantly felt bad for yelling at him.
"Are you okay, Myra?" Cole took a step towards me. Before I could answer, Ben called out to us.
"You guys ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah, we'll be with you in a sec!" Cole replied.
"Badger I'm fine. Let's just go..." I started walking after everyone else. Cole followed after me, looking unconvinced. Thankfully he didn't ask any questions. We walked in silence most of the day. The air was thick with the tension between Rose and I. I just kept my head down and stayed silent. Cole had noticed and was obviously getting anxious about it. Hopefully he wouldn't interrogate Rose the way he was interrogating me the entire walk, but I wouldn't put it past him.
