The trip to the station would have been nice if two of the men had walked but as it happened Florence was trapped between to sweaty men.
“You never said anything you say could be used against you in the court of law.” Florence pointed out.
“You’ve been watching too many cop shows.” One of them muttered.
“Hey, I was in the police, I had to say it.” She reasoned.
“Well, I guess we forgot.” This officer had a bad receding hairline and what was left of his hair was brushed into a dreadful comb over.
“Like you forgot your toupee.” Florence remarked and the other officers started smirking but none of them burst out laughing.
“Look lady, you’re going to be locked up for murder.” He replied.
“I guess I should take all the jokes I can get and many more as I didn’t kill him.”
“You had the motive.”
“Now it’s starting to sound like a cop show!” She joked.
The police car stopped and she smiled at her old friend.
They took her inside and placed her inside an interrogation room, two officers waited with her until a man came in. He gave her a stern look; at one time he must’ve been a handsome man but old age had forced his face to wrinkle and droop in various places. He looked kind however Florence figured he wouldn’t be showing that side today.
“Miss Heathcliff?” His voice was low and raspy.
“Mrs Smith now, actually.” She corrected him.
“Mrs Smith, I am Inspector Goodwin. We have footage of you visiting Mr McFadden from yesterday around 8pm. Do you deny visiting him?” He asked.
“No I do not.” Florence replied truthfully.
“You shortly left at 8:10pm. This morning we found him dead, now what does that tell you?”
“It tells me you need to have more officers patrolling the halls and checking in on the prisoners in the cells.”
“Is this a joke to you? A man is dead.”
“No it isn’t and it sure ain’t my fault.” Florence insisted.
