“Yes I have heard so much about you.”
“Okay?”
“Don’t you know who I am?” He pondered out loud.
“The son of the enemy?” She smirked.
“I’m your brother, slightly hurt you don’t know.” He grinned.
“My brother?” Florence was surprised. Mara had entered the canteen and was making her way over.
“Riley I told you not …” Mara started.
“You know I see it clearly now, you left dad because you loved Zach. You sicken me and I don’t even know why I’m giving in to him because he’ll only kill me anyway, I’m only doing this for my baby.” People started watching so Mara took them both out into the corridor.
“I’m going to be an uncle?” Riley seemed quite excited.
“Riley please shut up for one moment.” Florence demanded.
“I loved your father; I’ve already explained myself to you.”
“Loved. Past tense. You abandoned me and you keep telling me lies.”
“Look I don’t want to die and neither do I want you or Riley to get hurt either.” Mara said.
Florence shook her head. “You are just full of crazy.” She massaged her temples again, her head was hurting.
“Riley, take her to the lake.” Mara suggested and he nodded.
“Come on sis.” He said softly and pulled on Florence’s arm. She took one glance at her mother and her face crumpled to cry.
Riley put his arm around her and led her out of the base and into the open, there were still walls around the area but it was spacious enough and the lake was beautiful.
“I’m sorry.” Florence said rubbing her tears away with her sleeves.
“It’s fine, I never really understood how mum could stay with him, he’s an idiot and I hate him.”
“Join the club, we should have t-shirts.” Florence chuckled and Riley joined in too.
“I think we’ll get along just fine.” Riley answered.
