Nick was having a beer in the empty cafeteria.
“She’s awake, throwing up and currently hates all of us.”
“I could’ve figured that out.” He passed Dan a beer.
“Is she okay?” Mara appeared, her sad expression made her face look older.
“Not really, I don’t think we should go near her for about a year.” Dan remarked.
“One of us should go speak to her.” Nick suggested. Mara nodded, then realized Dan and Nick meant for her to go.
“What? I can’t. I’m the last person she wants to see.”
“Exactly, you can explain why you left her. Save me and Dan from our deaths.”
“I’M TOO YOUNG TO DIE!” Dan pleaded. Mara was definitely not pleased; nevertheless she agreed to talk to Florence.
“Thank you mummy!” Dan said sardonically.
She scowled at him and departed from the room.
“In laws, eh?” Nick jested.
“I am in so much pain right now.” Dan complained.
“You’re a good puncher though, my jaw still aches.” Nick commended him.
“That’s like a scratch compared to demobilizing me for a day.”
“Usually it demobilizes someone for three days; I must be a bit rusty.”
“Or I have a good pain threshold.”
Nick laughed, “It must be the beer, you do moan a bit though.”
“You would too if you felt like a car had hit you.” Dan took another swig of his beer.
“Do you think we’re going to hear a gunshot anytime soon?” Nick opened a packet of crisps.
“Maybe, all I know is that we might be a bit more injured than we are now.”
“That is true, unless Mara can persuade her to like us.”
“Like that would happen, we lied, I double lied. I might die. I’m too young I tell you!” Dan whined again. They chortled regardless of the fact the situation was quite serious.
