“Dan, your heart felt like it had been ripped out. You cried every single day. You drank a lot. Life was too hard to bear without her. She was the same when she thought you were dead.” Nick corrected him.

“Wait how do you know this?”

“I’m smart Dan, I ask questions.”

“So what’s your point?”

“My point is, it’s hard to let go of someone you’ve always loved. Even if she belongs to someone else.”

“There are billions of girls who would love you Nick, I mean Flo does love you but you just gotta move on.”

Nick scoffed at him. “The only time I will move on is when I die.” Dan wasn’t sure how to reply so he changed the subject. “Okay, how come Florence kissed you on the cheek in the car?” Nick untied him and kept silent. “What happened?” Dan was curious.

“Joseph was my brother. He was bad. I shot him. End of story.” Nick didn’t like the past. “Oh, sorry.” Was all Dan could say, it was obviously a bad subject to talk about. Karmin had two guns and a pocket knife so Nick grabbed them so they could protect themselves.

“What now?” Dan whispered.

“I’m thinking ventilation system.” Nick smiled pointing to the vent at the top of the wall.

“That is sooooo cliché.” Dan moaned.

“In the movies yeah, in real life you don’t get to do it much.” Nick seemed quite excited by the fact. He stood on his chair and pulled the vent cover off, ‘That was easy’ he thought and climbed in; he helped Dan and then put the vent cover back on.

They scrambled through the narrow metal shafts, Dan was slightly claustrophobic but he didn’t want Nick to know. Nick was also slightly claustrophobic but they were on a mission and he wouldn’t let it get in there way. “They must’ve realized we were gone by now.” Nick murmured to Dan. “Don’t they have alarms for escaped prisoners?” Dan was disappointed. “You watch too many movies.” Nick simply said and carried on moving. Arm in front of arm.

They paused when they heard sound underneath them. Dan could make out that one of the voices was Victor but wasn’t sure who the other was, it was a woman. Nick pressed forwards to look through the slits of the vent cover to see who it was.

“Find them now! They are the only way to get Florence!” Mara screamed at Victor. Nick couldn’t see her face but her clothes were creased and her hair looked a mess. She hadn’t taken Zach’s death well. Victor didn’t move, “Zach will be avenged.” He said softly. “I want them alive, I want her alive. Then we will decide what to do.” Mara commanded and Victor ran off to join the search parties.
