“You are the only person who has surprised me. You look like a shy wimpy musician but in fact you are pretty tough…”
“He’s still shy though.” Florence came in smiling at them.
“Hey you alright? You look a bit pale.” Dan placed his hand against her forehead.
“Just got a bit anxious but I’m okay. We should go before Riley wakes up.” Florence answered and they got in the car and started driving.
Along the way they dropped an unconscious Riley at an abandoned bus stop hut twenty miles away from the nearest town.
“I feel kind of mean.” Florence said peering at the bus hut.
“He shot Nick and was undercover; he would kill all of us.” Dan reasoned.
“But he’s my brother.”
“Remember Joseph, Florence?” Nick looked at her through his rear view mirror.
Florence and Nick shared a memory; Florence had to stop herself from crying. She nodded and kissed him on the cheek. “Come, come let us away from the past fair Nicholas and into the present.”
“Indeed.” He said stepping on the accelerator.
Florence felt Dan stare at her but she closed her eyes and fell asleep. She woke up to an empty car. At first she wasn’t bothered but then see saw the bullet holes and red…Nick’s chair had slid back and her legs were stuck, the pain shot through her. How had she slept through this? Was the pain so unbearable? Did someone knock her out? She managed to push Nick’s chair forward and with much effort she scrambled out of the car hitting the ground hard, she groaned.
Out stretching her arms she pulled herself along trying to look around. She heard someone gasping for air. “Hello.” Florence croaked.
“Florence.” Someone whimpered. Florence made her way towards the sound. “Florence is…that…is that you?”
“Gwen...Gwen?” Florence could tell Gwen was injured. Florence reached out and found Gwen’s hand; they clasped hold of each others hands. “Gwen, what happened? Did they shoot you?”
“They crashed into the car, Nick was unconscious, you were screaming so Dan knocked you out and they took them…I’m not important so they shot me in my side and left me to die, they kept you alive on purpose.” Gwen whispered.
“They?” Florence enquired moving herself closer. “It was two men and a woman.”
Florence sighed. Karmin, Victor and Kane.
