A few hours later, Dan woke up in an infirmary on the 3rd level below ground.
Florence was sat looking at her belly and rubbing it, it was podgy but not yet visible she was pregnant.
She heard Dan shuffle in his bed and looked up at him, her eyes red. She looked away quickly.
He tried moving but he flinched at the pain in his back.
"Don't try and move, it will take a few days to properly heal." Florence mumbled.
"Look at me." Dan whispered loud enough for her to hear. Florence raised her head, her eyes were red and puffy from crying and her make up had run. Dan frowned.
"What did he say?" He seemed angry, Florence let out a snigger.
"He said nothing, it's what you said. It's what he did to you. It's this whole situation." She sounded quite emotional. 'Strange, something must be up.' Dan thought.
"Is anything broken?" He tried to change the subject.
"No, if Nick broke anything I would've shot him."
"Remind me not to get on your bad side." Dan laughed but stopped because it hurt his chest. Florence looked overly concerned. Dan smiled at her. "I was wrong."
"About what?"
"About everything, you're not a liar, I am and if you don't want to talk then its okay. I'm sorry about what I said because I genuinely know you love me."
"How? Are you a mind reader?" She leered.
"You've been crying, you look way too concerned, you married me. It's kind of obvious." He let out a small giggle but started coughing. Florence got up and placed her hand on his bare bruised chest. A tear ran over her cheek and Dan wiped it away.
"I'm fine Lorrie." His sad blue eyes searched her. "Are you?"
Florence hesitated. At that moment Nick burst into the room. There was a small bruise where Dan had hit him but other features, like a split lip and a cut cheek were also visible. "We have a lead." He said urgently. Florence nodded. Nick exited.
"Did you..." Dan realized asking Florence whether she'd punched him was a stupid question because he knew the answer was 'Yes'. She nodded. "A few times until he stopped me." She answered.
"Isn't hitting girls in his nature?" Dan was quite serious. "Yeah, but he can't hit me at the moment." Florence's lips curled and she walked out the door.
