Learn the basics:
First, you'll need to learn to draw fairly near circles, squares, faces, bodies, etc. Practice the basics before moving into anything else.
•
Have neat handwriting:
If you have the sloppiest handwriting in the world there is probably a good chance you're not good at drawing. Having neat handwriting will not only train you to have perfect curves and straights, but you'll improve in drawing/art.
•
Don't compare or limit yourself:
Comparing yourself to someone who has a lot of experience is just pointless. At one point they were really bad at art but they improved by practicing. Limiting yourself to only draw 'this' or 'that' isn't going to help you improve.
•
Practice often:
For example, try drawing one picture a day or practicing the basics. Don't just wait a month and the draw, try settling aside time to sketching, drawing, etc.
•
Look for inspiration:
Look at magazines, shows, and other people's art to find inspiration. Doing this will give you a fixed mindset on what type of art you want to do.
