November 30th 2018
I woke up and I heard three loud bangs before being covered in paper streamers and my family yelling "Happy Birthday Becky!""Ugh, thanks guys." I sat up and pulled the paper from the party poppers off my face and gave them all a hug. "And dad it's nice to see you remembered this year." I joked.
"Of course I remembered, because you are officially debuting as Peggy/Maria and I couldn't be prouder. I can wait to watch you tonight baby girl."
"Thanks Daddy." I give him another hug and kiss. "What about you sis? Are you excited to see the show again?"
"Yes! I'm so excited because it's your birthday!" I give her a hug and kiss too then hug my mom.
"And now I officially become your little sister mommy." She smiles at me and gives me a tight hug.
"You know Becky, you can change your Twitter bio and Instagram Bio now."
"Ohh. I'm gunna do that now."
I go onto my twitter and open my new account. I still had @/becky_hamfam But I'd got a new one of both accounts for the professional stuff. My old account was now private and I followed lots of the FearlessSquad on it but now I had my new account for work purposes.
Becky Melini-Gonzalez (@/Becky_Mel_Gonz)
Actress - U/S Peggy/Maria in @/HamiltonMusical on Broadway.
18 y/o daughter of Mandy Gonzalez and Douglas Melini. ❤️Family Comes First❤️I did the same for Instagram and both my old accounts too, adding (follow Becky_Mel_Gonz, for my official account) to them. "I'm going to go make breakfast sweetie, I'll make your favourite pancakes and crepes like I did last year. And then we are heading down to the court house to get your name legally changed and to officially make Chris and Karen your Godparents."
"Okay thank you mama." She and Dad left leaving me in bed with my sister. I scrolled through twitter, getting lots of birthday messages and then I stopped on one particular post that Lexi had just retweeted.
Elizabeth Smith - Our lost daughter is 18 today. I hope she was found at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre & taken into a loving & caring family, after we got deported back to the UK. Your birth Mother and Father miss you so much Carly. I hope you still wear the anklet & are following your dreams
Underneath there were two photos.
"Maribelle! Can go grab the box of keepsakes from the orphanage." She runs out the room, into my closet and comes back with the box. I look though it and find exactly what I was looking for.
As I look at the matching pictures and anklets I begin crying. "MANDY!" I scream.
"Becky what's wrong?" My sister asks.
"Don't worry Maribelle, go help dad, I need to be with mom. ALONE." I emphasise the last word and she climbs of the bed and leaves with a frown.
"Hey, Mari, what's wrong?" I heard my mom say just outside my door.
"Becky told me to go away, that she needs to be with you, alone. She's mad at me but I don't know why. All I did was ask her what was wrong when she started crying."
"Becky's crying! Okay, go have breakfast sweetie, I'll help your sister. Remember that today's her special day."
"Yeah, everyday seems to be a special day for her." I heard my sister stomp off. Great, now she was mad at me.
"Hey sugar, what's wrong sweetie?"
"My...my birth parents...I think...I think I found them."
"How so Becky?" She came and sat on the bed and I handed her the photo and anklet.
"This is a photo I had with me when I was found in the Jacob Javits Convention Centre, it's all that was with me. And this anklet that I kept on every day until my ankle got to big and it was too tight so I had to take it off, as we ran out of extensions."
"Okay, what does this have to do with finding your birth parents?"
"This tweet, Lexi retweeted this morning. That's me. It's the same photo and the same anklet, that's where I was found, and I'm 18 today. So they did actually get my birthday right. Today is my real birthday." Mandy stopped everything she was doing for a few moments, looking between the tweet and the photo and the anklet.
"What do you want to do Becky, or Carly, or whoever you really are?"
"I'm Becky, and I'm still your 18 year old daughter, mom, so something you can do is stop panicking that I'm going to change my name to Carly Smith and leave you. Because I'm never leaving this family, I'm Becky Melini-Gonzalez, and I have been for over a year. And I've been Becky for 923 weeks. Nothing is going to change mom. Nothing at all."
"Okay, so you want me to try contacting them, maybe, if they want and you want, they can come over to visit and they can watch you in Hamilton."
"It's up to you mom, no one else knows about the photo or the anklet. So if we don't say anything, it will stay hidden forever. But if you are happy for them to know who I actually am as a person then maybe we try and figure out how to call them."
"Alright, I'll message them. I want them to know that you are safe, and that you have a loving and caring family with you now." I just nodded as I watched my mom message the woman who might just be my birth mother.
