When morning came link groaned as the light hit him right in the face and he rolled away, he was so tired and just wanted to sleep. He shifted trying to get comfy when he heard noise coming from outside and he groaned "fuck it. No more sleep." He slowly sat up and looked around the room over to where Yuki was asleep. Only to see an empty bed. His eyes widened in horror as he noticed she wasn't in the room and that her bag was also no where to be seen. Quickly getting up and putting on his shoes, he grabbed his bag did he quickly run outside only to stop in relief as he saw her sitting in the grass talking to Paya as the horses ate some apples.
She looked up and blinked before she smiled "you're awake!" He slowly walked over to her and then knelt down as he pulled her to him. He didn't know why but not seeing her when he woke up had really shaken him up. "Don't...do that again." Yuki blinked she didn't expect him to worry like this. "I'm sorry, I just couldn't sleep, and you looked like you needed it so I got my stuff and went outside. I even managed to buy some arrows for the both of us." Paya nodded "I even helped her replace her sword, and got her a bow. She's a natural with both." Link pulled back as he looked at both girls. "I would suppose so, I mean she was what my partner over 100 years ago?" Paya nodded as she confirmed this. "Yeah, however no one knows what kind of relationship you two actually had."
Yuki looked down as they spoke, she honestly wish she could remember something, anything. Yet everything was a giant blank to her. And if she tried to remember her head would explode with pain. "Anyway, you two are leaving soon right?" At this Yuki looked up and slowly nodded. "Once he eats we will be leaving." Link looked at her and frowned, "You need to eat as well. You're honestly skinnier then i am." Yuki scowled at his comment. "I'm perfectly healthy thank you. Besides, I already ate." This made paya blink as she didn't recall Yuki eating at all. "What did you eat?" Yuki blinked "a hard boiled egg." Link groaned. "No. Stay I'll be back with proper food." And with that he left to go and cook the both of them some food.
Yuki sighed, she honestly wasn't hungry, in fact, she didn't even want to eat. Perhaps it was because of the headache she now had, but she also hadn't eaten a single thing yesterday. Not, that anyone needed to no that bit of information. "So Yuki?" Yuki looked over and raised an eyebrow "where did the scar on your shoulder blade come from?" Yuki blinked. "Scar?" Paya seemed shocked. "You don't know about the injury on your shoulder?" Yuki simply nodded no. "I told you, I don't remember anything." "Nothing? Not even a tiny bit?" Yuki frowned as guilt ate at her. "No, nothing, not even Link. So please, stop asking me." "I'm sorry I just didn't expect it all to be gone you know?" Yuki frowned then gasped in pain as she clutched her head.
"Yuki?!" It was Link who yelled as he ran over, quickly putting down the food as she took her into his arms. She was starting to tremble as the pain in her head became to much. If it wasn't for the fact Link was holding her she would have fallen over. "What did you do?" He was glaring at Paya now. Paya was shocked, she didn't expect such a reaction from Link or for Yuki to suddenly be in pain. "Nothing! I was asking her about her scars, and if she truly had no memory and this happened." She looked at Yuki to confirm this only to receive silence as her answer. "Yuki?" She simply groaned and Link rubbed the back of her head, trying to sooth her pain. "Sorry Paya But can you give us some space?"
Paya nodded and took off for her grandma's. She honestly felt bad, she hadn't meant to cause Yuki any type of pain. It took a few moments for link to help Yuki settle down and once she did she let out a defeated groan. "This happens every time I try to remember!" "Shhhh. It's okay, you don't need to remember everything in one go, or right away. Be patient it'll come back Yuki, I promise." She looked at him with her stormy grey eyes that were now filling with tears and his heart broke. Why he didn't know but it really upset him seeing her like this. Carefully he wiped away her tears. "It's okay Yuki. It's all going to be okay." And without even thinking he recited a saying he once said over 100 years ago. "I promise, I will protect you, and I will always be your friend."
Yuki blinked then stiffened, those words sounded so familiar, so familiar that she found herself repeating those same words to him. Impa who had been watching them had a smile on her face. She knew of this story, after Hiro has learned of his daughters supposed death he himself had fallen into despair. So in order to help him cope, impa had offered to listen to any story he wanted. And usually they involved his beloved daughter. Yes he talked of the other two, but Yuki was his eldest, even if she wasn't his daughter by blood. He had raised her as his, and it was a devastating blow he had received. Once impa had heard Yuki had been taken to a chamber did she feel relief and quickly told Hiro who cried tears of joy. His daughter wasn't dead, she was simply asleep, healing from life threatening wounds.
On the day Hiro had passed did impa feel true sorrow, so she promised him, she promised that his remaining two kids wouldn't ever have to fight, they could live freely. Saya however became the new clan leader, and she cried and she cried, tears of happiness yet also sorrow. She had wanted her big sister, she wanted to hear her sister was proud of her. Kai had stayed by his sisters side to help console her. It was a bitter sweet memory now.
She looked back over at the pair and could only hope they would remember soon, least everyone who died have died in vein. Yuki and Link had finished eating and went to wash their plates when the innkeeper took them and shooed them away. "I guess we should get going huh?" Yuki nodded, they were already behind schedule and that did not sit well with her. "Yes we should, we're already behind." Link rolled his eyes "you and time limits huh?" She scowled "I happen to like arriving to places at decent times thank you." He chuckled as he watched her pin her hair "I think it looks nice down." "To bad, we have a long way to go and long hair only gets in the way." He shrugged and watched as she also put on the mask and scarf and he blinked almost like he was feeling a form of dejavú.
Yuki looked at him before climbing onto her horse link following after as he got on his own. Soon enough both had left Kakariko and were now heading towards Hateno. It didn't take long since this time they rode horses yet Yuki seemed nervous. She didn't know if the man was going to be wielding his pitch fork again, while she had her own weapons something about that seemed to have left her shaken up pretty bad. "Oh! Welcome back lil lady! Tell me who is this man?" Yuki blinked as the man wasn't hostile this time, well he was actually nice since he gave her directions once. "My friend. His names link and we both needed to come here to see someone named Pruah?" Link nodded as she spoke.
The man blinked "why would you need to see that old woman?" Yuki shrugged "following what we were told to do." The man shrugged as he let them through. The two looked around at all the shops as they traveled and that's when link noticed a house. Slipping away while Yuki asked for directions to the lab. Quickly finding the man who was in charge did he speak to him about buying the house.Luckily he arrived in time. They were about to demolish it. "All right, you want the house, 3,000 rupees." Link shrugged, he had managed to save a lot more then that, especially since he had recently sold a lot of ore. Handing over the money Bolsons eyes almost popped out of his head "woah, money bags much?" Link shrugged again. "I'll be back, I need to go get my friend."
And with that he left after paying the man an extra 2,000 rupees to repair anything that was damaged and needed to be added. Bolsón was amazed as he watched the young man leave before him and his team got to work. Link found Yuki a few moments later and saw she was shifting nervously. "You alright?" "Yes, but where did you go?" He blinked "to take care of something. Did you get the directions?" She nodded "we should leave the horses here and something tells me we should use that blue flame to light those lanterns."
Link shrugged but listened to her. Carefully he lit a torch with the flame and lit the lantern closes to them. As they traveled to the lab, lighting lanterns along the way did Yuki look around. "So, what exactly did you do?" He looked at her as they neared the lab "bought a house, figured it would be nice for the two of us to have a place to go when we're near by or need a break." Yuki's eyes widened "you want me to stay with you?" He raised an eyebrow "um yeah, we're constantly gonna be traveling together and I don't want you staying outside or wasting your money at an inn." Yuki was shocked but said nothing. "I also activated a shrine." Now Yuki just looked down right confused. He sighed as he realized she didn't even know what that meant.
He had just finished explaining it to her when they made it to the lab. He lit the final lantern and his eyes widened as a new travel point appeared on his map. Link looked at Yuki wondering if she understood what happened or if she was alright. Yuki looked at him and noticed the unspoken question within his blue eyes. Signing Yuki watched him with curious grey eyes and she have said that she was fine, and that she didn't have a headache, but that would have been a lie. However it had nothing to do with what link told her, she was trying to remember again. He noticed and frowned as he flicked her "stop forcing it." She sighed then looked down "oh? What's this?" "A travel stone. We can teleport here in the future if we ever need to." Yuki nodded and soon they went inside only to be greeted by an excited child.
"Linky! Yuki! You two are here." Yuki blinked and Link looked confused. "I'm the director it's me pruah don't you remember me?" Neither one said anything, both beyond confused "I mean yeah i look young but it's really me you guys. It was an experiment gone wrong of sorts." Eventually pruah realized that they truly didn't know her. "Awe you two really forgot about me." She sighed as she wrote that down. Yuki didn't like hearing the word subject "we aren't subjects! We're people and whatever that machine is, it literally wiped our memories." Pruah quickly apologized "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it like that."
Yuki huffed as she crossed her arms. Link rubbed her back gently soothing her. "Anyway, let's fix that slate!" She told Link what to do and within moments the slate had been restored to its former glory. Inside of it was photos, photos places they probably should have known. "Oh! This was Zelda's Slate! These spots might be able to help you unlock your missing memories." Link looked hopeful and Yuki blinked. She didn't care what she remembered she just needed to remember something. Anything so her head would finally stop killing her. "Anyway, take a photo of me and Yuki!" She pulled Yuki over to where she was and the two smiled as Link took a photo.
He didn't notice a certain photo however as it wasn't on the same page as those of the memories. However he would probably notice it later down the line. Pruah smiled at the photo before the two finally left. "Where to now?" "How about our house so we can see what still needs to be done, and get some rest. Tomorrow we can travel out and look around for some memories and perhaps figure out where to look for a divine beast." Yuki nodded before she held out her hand. "The slate please." Link shrugged as he handed it over to her. "It seems we can follow one of these four dots and it should take us to our destination. We can also change objectives." Link watched her as she studied it and found himself smiling, she was amazing, even with no memory, she had managed to stay composed and figure out several key things.
She soon handed it back "the map is totally blank though." "I know, we have to find and activate the towers to get the map" Yuki nodded, for some odd reason that made complete sense to her. Once they reached the house did Yuki feel a sense of familiarity and instantly relaxed especially when she saw both horses were already put away for the night. Link found a note from bolsón and smirked. He had done a terrific job on patching this place up and even added trees and flowers. He decided he would thank the man tomorrow, not only for the house being repaired so quickly but for also putting both horses away for them.
Carefully he led Yuki inside and she looked around. It had all the basic items and even 3 bedrooms. Yuki went upstairs and Link decided he would improve the house over time. Following after Yuki he watched her look at the rooms before choosing the one farthest from the main room which link had taken. He frowned, why was she so far away? "Yuki? Why don't you take the middle room?" She shrugged "I like this one." He frowned again and led her to the middle room "stay in this one, it's a bit bigger." "I just need a basic room Link, nothing fancy, I'll find a place to stay eventually after all, and I don't have much." She was rambling and he covered her mouth with his hand.
"Breathe, i bought this place for the two of us. Yeah I probably should have asked, but, I wanted to surprise you. So I don't wanna hear any talk of you leaving any time soon. Also, we need to fix that. You need at least some furniture for the room." She blushed as she slowly nodded, the room only had a bed, a nightstand, lamp and one dresser. She went into the room and closed the door. Link smiled as he went to his own and sat on the bed. Tomorrow they would fix the house up together, who knows, maybe they could also find some memories. As he sat there he slowly grew tired before he finally fell asleep.
He woke up sometime later to Yuki gently shaking him as she told him dinner was ready. His stomach growled and he blushed which made Yuki giggle. He smiled as she giggled and decided right then and there that he loved it when she was happy. Following the giggling girl to the kitchen he stopped in complete shock. She had added some plants and some photos of fields and lakes and he smiled. "I like what you did." She blushed and looked away "thank you." He chuckled as he went to go sit down and eat. He was surprised by all the food, she had made mushrooms, rice and some kind of fried fish. "Enjoy." He nodded and quickly dug into his food as she slowly ate hers. Once they had finished did he insist on doing the dishes. "Alright, alright I'm going to bed then." He nodded and watched her go upstairs listening for the door to close and smiled when he heard said door close. Yuki quickly changed into a long t-shirt she had bought in Kakariko while Link was sleeping and crawled under her blankets before falling asleep. She could only hope tomorrow was a better day and that her headaches would finally stop.
