CHAPTER 33: I Question You Answer.
"Don't need no butterflies when you give me the whole damn zoo."
-Hailee Steinfeld, Grey.
I didn't completely waste the night away.
After a couple of more drinks and drunk games, Charlie had the bright idea to ditch the party because he was hungry. So he dragged us to a 24 hours open burger joint. It was pretty cosy with wooden chairs and leather booths where we were seated. Colourful walls filled with frames and art. It was pretty late but I had texted Mum so I was covered.
I shoot Charlie a distasteful look when he keeps squeezing Mayo and ketchup over his fries. He just grins and tips his chin towards my basket of fries but I pull it closer to me with a huff.
It was just me, Damon, Luke, Madison, Charlie, Morgan and Roxy. Lily and Mason declined the offer to come along and don't want to think why. She better land her butt in my house before her flight or mom will grill me.
Eating and gulping water had sobered me up. I was sober enough to know I was seated between them. Luke had his arm draped on the back of my chair, fingers playing with my strands. He was definitely a little drunk because he never touches me around Damon. For Damon he had possessively placed his hand on my thigh. Luke stares at it a second longer and then flicks his eyes up to meet mine. His jaw hardens and he looks away. I keep staring at him quietly until Damon kisses the side of my head and distracts me.
“Where did Kelly disappear? Anyone see her tonight?” Roxy nibbles on her fries curiously looking over us.
“She wasn't feeling well so she headed home.” I tell her and check my phone to see if she's reached home. Sure enough there's her message informing me she's home safe.
“It's about Mas isn't it?” Luke leans and whispers in my ear and for a moment I forget what I'm about to say.
“Yes.” I simply answer.
He nods but doesn't pry which I'm thankful for. These guys are close but I don't want to tell him if she doesn't want me too.
Damon's phone buzzes and he frowns when he sees who's calling.
“It's from home. I'll be back.” he mumbles before walking out pressing the phone to his ear.
Damon emerges inside after a minute and places his palms flat on the table instead of sitting again.
“Gotta go. There's some emergency.” he turns to Luke. “Take her home?”
“Of course.” Luke nods before standing beside his best friend.
Damon smiles and leans down to my level. “Sorry Flower Girl I really gotta go.”
“Everyone good?”
“Yeah. Don't worry.” he kisses my forehead murmuring a ‘good night.’
Luke walks him to his car both of them murmuring something in quiet whispers. I'm sure Luke's worried and making sure everything is alright. Damon seems to tell him cause Luke takes a while to come back inside.
“Wanna head home?” he hovers above me and I nod.
“How are we getting home?” I ask gathering my stuff.
