CHAPTER 50: Away Games And Confrontations.
"Every tear, every fear
Gone with the thought of you
Changing what I thought I knew
I'll be yours for a thousand lives."
-Rita Ora, Liam Payne.
The remainder of the week flew by in consistent practices, tests, assignments, homework and in no time the baskeball girls, football boys and the cheerleading squad were crammed in, in the fairly large bus. In my old school, away games were merely one or two hours away, so traveling and living in hotels for the duration of our game was new to me. I was nervous but excited too. Away games weren't that appealing, playing in unfamiliar courts and half of the crowd cheering for your rival team wasn't that great. But at the same a little change was welcomed.
Though we were sternly instructed to behave and not leave the rooms at night, I knew, according to Damon, the teams were going to do just that. Plus it's not everyday we get night outs. Win or lose, these people were ready to celebrate.
The bus ride is bumpy as I continue reading the book I brought along, still figuring out how Damon is so soundly asleep next to me, snuggled in my shoulder, arms wrapped around me. I smile and brush a few locks from his forehead, as I listen to the small murmurs of the students. We had to leave early, so mostly everyone was already catching up on their lost sleep. My phone buzzes in my lap, so I close the book and slide it in my open bag near my feet.
Lukey Luke: You up?
We were still figuring how to act towards each other. I was either crying in his arms or ignoring him all together. He was no better, he preferred spending lunch with Charlotte than facing me. This is exactly I was talking about, he always goes back to her, just how I always choose Damon. Even Damon was noticing my odd behaviour but he never asked. He just lets me be. Which relieves and hurts me at the same time.
Me: Unfortunately yes. I can't really sleep while travelling.
He instantly replies, which is surprising since he was with Charlotte.
Lukey Luke: I know right. Thank God someone gets me. Everyone is sleeping and snoring like this is completely normal. Outrageous!
I smile at his dramatics.
Me: I feel you! Plus I love watching the view but it's kinda boring watching the passing cars now. What are you doing?
Lukey Luke: You have a weird habit of typing like you're writing a school eassy. You can use typos Ellie.
Lukey Luke: Trying to keep Char from falling off the seat!
I purse my lips at his second reply and heave a frustrated breath. Char? Rolling my eyes, I think boys are so oblivious!
Me: Typos annoy me.
Lukey Luke: To an extent they annoy me too. I can't help but write 'you' instead of 'u'
Me: That's nice.
Lukey Luke: You good sleepyhead?
How does he perceive my mood even when we are texting?
Me: Ntg.
Lukey Luke: I thought you hated typos.😲🤔
Me: 🙄 doesn't mean I won't use them. I think I'm just gonna go back to reading. Talk to you later Lucas!
Lukey Luke: Um. Okay. 😔😔
I smile reluctantly. God he's adorable.
Me: Hey! 😬😬
