The warm sun blazed overhead like an open oven, cooled only by the ocean breeze and familiar smells of fish and salt that hit the noses of the crew as sweat dripped down their necks from the difficult work of hauling in fish. They'd been out for hours, reeling in net after net, in hopes of the next big catch in addition to something delicious to eat.

Orders were shouted from the top of the boat, the booming echo of a voice that commanded strength and obedience from his crew and nothing less. "OI! Don't yank the side so hard, you'll tear the netting!" Bakugo shouted down towards the side where his crew was gathered, pulling up yet another net.

He walked down to inspect the catch and...of course: abysmally small and pathetic. Today had been awful in terms of both the size of the fish and the number, which didn't bode well for their return to shore where they all were hoping to sell fish high in demand and price.

"What, again? C'mon..." Kirishima groaned while separating out the fish and tossing back over the side the ones that weren't worth keeping.

"Better than an empty net?" Sero commented, but for all the work they did it felt wasted.

Bakugo came behind them and groaned. "The hell is this? You sure you dropped the nets in the right spots this time?!" he yelled towards Kaminari, who put up his hands defensively.

"Uh, yeah! I mean, I'm pretty sure? I followed the big red X's on your map so-"

"YOU WHAT?! You idiot, those were places NOT to drop at...the hell would I put an X to mark something good?" Kaminari ducked down as Bakugo was about to smack him right over the head. Serves him right for putting Kaminari in charge of all people...no wonder today was so bad.

"Sorry! There's just one more I think and that's it, we can go back home." The sound of Bakugo's teeth grinding nearly overshadowed the lapping waves hitting the side of the metal boat.

"Can't believe this...a whole day, wasted. Fine, one more and then we're done. YOU get to tell everyone back home why the catch was so shit," he ground out before waving them off to clean up before he started to cruise towards their last stop. They were all hoping for a big meal - and payday - but pathetic-looking sandwiches would have to do for now.

After half an hour they came to the final net drop just as the sun was starting to set. Kirishima, Kaminari, and Sero all worked to pull up the last net, but Bakugo noticed they were having a bit of difficulty.

"Woah! This one is way heavier than all the others. Maybe we got lucky this time," Kirishima noted as his palms, though covered in tough calluses, strained under the taught rope.

"Good thing, too, before Bakugo tosses me overboard..." Kaminari said as he leaned over the edge to get a better hold.

As the net lifted they saw there was indeed fish, but in addition to seaweed and the occasional plastic bottle there was something distinctly bizarre wiggling around in the middle of the net.

Sero was about to grab hold to yank it over the edge of the boat when a clawed hand struck out from a gap in the netting, nearly scratching him in the process. "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?!"

"Oi! What's the issue?!" Bakugo hopped down to the main deck and observed his crewmates struggling with the net that was, indeed, much heavier than all the others. "Hurry up and drop it!"

Sero stood back with a horror-struck look on his face while Kaminari and Kirishima finished hauling the catch before dropping it onto the deck. There, in the middle of shimmering wriggling fish sat...something? Someone? That was distinctly part-human and part-fish.

Everyone screamed. Well, everyone except the captain.

"OH MY GOD!"

"N-no way!"
