Todoroki with Reader whose A/C goes out

The weather was hot - far too hot, honestly - to even be enjoyable. You hated being cold, but at least you could wrap up in blankets and coats to keep away the chill. When going outside felt like walking into an oven, there were only so many clothing layers you could remove before you'd get arrested for walking around in the nude.

Ice cream and cold foods only did so much. Cool showers wasted too much water. Fans just blew around humid air, so those didn't help past the first half-hour. But, you were surviving, living, coping.

...Until the A/C unit in your room went out, and you woke up in a pool of sweat that soaked your sheets right down to the mattress in the middle of the night.

"Oh, ugh, gross!" you said, peeling the fabric away from the shirt plastered to your skin. "Why is it...so quiet?" After messing around with the thermostat you came to the conclusion that your air conditioner was broken when it wouldn't turn on at all. "Great, just perfect. What am I supposed to do now?"

After waking up feeling gross you decided to take a cold shower, but as soon as you went back into your room the cool feeling went away. You had class tomorrow, so it was no time to screw up on sleep because of something dumb like this!

"They probably can't fix it until tomorrow at least, Aizawa will be mad if I fall asleep in class...hmm." Going down into the kitchen area for a cold glass of water you pondered over different ideas on what to do just for tonight when you heard footsteps behind you.

"Oh, didn't know someone else was up. Sorry." It was Todoroki, his red and white hair immediately familiar. He opened up the fridge to grab a snack when a brilliant idea popped into your overheated brain.

"Todoroki," you said, walking over to him before placing a hand on his shoulder. He immediately stiffened, eyes darting from your hand to your face. "Does the A/C in your room work?"

Maybe it was your desperation talking, or the heat started melting your brain, but you saw zero flaws with this suggestion or plan. He looked at you strangely, though, before nodding. "Yeah...why?"

"Let's have a sleepover."

He almost dropped the late-night snack he was holding, eyes going wide at the statement. "...When?"

"Now, right now. Tonight." Something you said - maybe the odd urgency lacing your voice - must've set him off, because you had to take your hand away to avoid being burned as his left side started emitting small flames. "Woah, woah! No heat, please, no!"

Immediately the flames went out, but he still looked utterly confused. "Why now? What's wrong?"

You groaned, just wanting to go to sleep in a cool room. "My A/C broke and my room feels like a sauna and it's gross so I can't sleep but you have a working air conditioner and- "

"I can help," he said immediately since he now understood what you were asking of him and why.

"Oh my gosh really?!" he nodded, finally closing the fridge. "Yes, yes...I'm so tired and I just want some cool air." Without thinking you grabbed his arm and tugged him towards the stairs back up to the dorms, the darkness in the main shared space hiding the tint of his ears.

"Can't we just go back to your room and I could make some cool air?" he suggested when you dragged him down his own hallway rather than your own.

"My bed is all sweaty and gross so nah, I don't wanna go back there. I'll go back in the morning to change for class but just for tonight let's have a sleepover. I promise I don't snore." You really gave him little choice in your sleep-deprived state as you stopped right in front of his door. While still holding his snack he dug into the pocket of his pajama pants for his room key, sliding it into the lock before swinging open the door into the dark, cool room.

"Uh, you can just-"

"It's like heaven in here," you said, sitting down on his bed while basking in the comfort of air conditioning. Not knowing what else to do, Todoroki stuffed the food into his mouth and sat down as well, sleep creeping up on him as well. You held your arms wide open expectantly, while he just stared with tired eyes. "Well? C'mon. You're the coldest thing in the room."

"Oh," was all he said with a realization that maybe you wanted to cuddle. He'd never held onto someone while he slept before, except maybe his mother when he was very small. As soon as you fell into his arms you snuggled up to his right side and closed your eyes. He stiffened up like an ice cube at the touch before slowly relaxing and succumbing to sleep.

"Thanks...Todo..." you mumbled as he laid you down with him on the futon. You fell asleep minutes later, finally free from the heat. His ears and cheeks burned, but he made sure to keep the room cool for tonight.
