LOOSING HOPE

YOU CAN RUN, BUT YOU CAN'T HIDE

Can boarded his flight to New York the next morning. He had already called a private investigator before he boarded, to help in his search for Sanem. He continued trying to reach Sanem, but like the many times before, she refused to answer her cell phone. He turned off his cell phone when the plane was ready for takeoff. Sanem was still getting missed calls from Can. What did he mean he would see her soon and she had a lot of explaining to do? And that she left Istanbul with his heart? He barely knew her, and she barely knew this Can. He became a new Can when he lost 2 years of his memories. Sanem laughed. He would never find her in New York. She never told him what city in New York. He would still be looking, when her 3 months were up, and she headed back to Istanbul. She wasn't worried in the least.

Sanem spent the first few days getting unpacked, calling her parents and Leyla and exploring a little of New York. She was actually in New York City and was it ever alive. People everywhere. Cars everyone. Everything was so fast paced, so unlike Istanbul. The streets were packed with people walking everywhere. They seem to be in a hurry to get somewhere. She tried different kinds of food. She really like their sandwich, called a hot dog. You could buy them from a man with a little cart right there on a sidewalk. So odd. She stopped at a market and bought a few food items for her apartment. She then headed back to her temporary home.

Can landed in New York and went to check in to his hotel. He was in New York City. He thought, might as well start here. He still hadn't heard from the private investigator he hired. He went out to find a bite to eat. He had been to America before, so he spoke English fluently. He wondered if Sanem was having difficulty with their language. She only knew how to speak Turkish. He was scared for his little Sanem being in this big city. He hoped she wouldn't get lost or anything bad happen to her. This was a whole new world for her. God how he missed her. He wanted to kiss her...hold her...make love to her once again. He never dreamed he would pine after any woman. She was definitely different from any woman he had ever met.

The next day, Sanem headed to the publishing house to meet Travis. It wasn't very far from her little apartment. She walked in and asked for Travis. The receptionist told her to have a seat and he would be right with her. After a few minutes, Travis appeared. He was a young, good-looking man. He smiled, shook her hand and welcomed her. She followed him to his office. He told her tonight he has scheduled a meet and greet at their local bookstore. She would meet her fans, answer questions and sign autographs. Sanem told him it sounded great. He told her he would be right there beside her the whole time. He told her he made her a little office there so she could settle in and be comfortable. Sanem told him thank you. She stayed there in the office until around lunch time. Travis offered to take her out for lunch. He took her to a small but elegant restaurant. Sanem told him she couldn't speak or read English, so he would have to order for her. He spoke Turkish rather well. They enjoyed their meal and talked about simple things. Sanem was really liking this American food.

Can finally heard from the private investigator. He gave him the address where Sanem was living and the name of the publishing house where she would be working. He told him the owner was Travis Jordan. He told Can, Travis was 29 years old, single, fluent in English, Turkish, Spanish and Italian. He lived alone in a condo around the corner from the publishing house. He was also a very famous publisher. Can thanked him and told him he would leave his money in a sealed envelope at the front desk of his hotel. Can went in search of her apartment. He found it and sat at a little cafe across the street to wait for her to return home.

After their lunch, Travis offered to drive Sanem back to her apartment. He told she had done enough for today and they had to be at the bookstore later this evening. Sanem said OK. Travis pulled up in front of her apartment building. He got out, came around the SUV and opened the door for Sanem. He walked her to the front entrance of the apartment building. He shook her hand and then hugged her. He told her he would pick her up tonight around 6:00 pm. Sanem told him she would see him then.

Can was across the street and witnessed the whole thing. When this man hugged Sanem, he wanted to run across the road and throttle him. This must be the famous Travis. He waited for Travis to leave then he headed across the road to her apartment. He knew the apartment number from the address the private investigator gave him. Can entered the building and took the elevator to the right floor. He found her apartment and knocked. After a few minutes, Sanem answered. Her eyes got big and her mouth dropped open when she saw Can standing there. Can smiled and said, I told you I would see you soon. Sanem asked him how he found her. He said I am Can Divit and I have my resources. He asked if he could come in. She opened the door wider to let him in. She asked him why he was there. He answered by saying because you are here. He told her where she goes, he will follow...always.

He asked her why she left Istanbul. She told him she needed to this New York thing for her book. Can told her he would have traveled with her. Sanem said she needed to do this on her own. She wasn't a child anymore. She casually asked him where his climbing partner was. Can laughed at her. He accused her of being jealous. Sanem immediately denied it. He told her he didn't know where Ayca was. He did not go climbing with her. He cancelled and headed back to see Sanem, but she was gone. So, tell me the real reason you left, he said. Sanem told him this was never going to work between them. Can wanted to know why. Sanem told him she wasn't ready to open her heart back up just for it to be broken again. She told him she couldn't go through the many women who would throw themselves at him and him not do anything about it. She said it hurt back then and it hurts now. She told him when he had his memories they worked through this issue and he started telling these women he was taken. He would actually introduce her to them as his girlfriend. She told him he never did this with Ayca. She then told him she felt him and Ayca made a great couple. You have so much in common and you love the same things. Sanem then told him they had nothing in common. She wasn't outdoorsy and she wasn't into sports. He would grow bored with her eventually.

Can listened to all of this with a smile on his face. He told her we have this in common and then he kissed her passionately. Sanem tried to break free with no luck. She eventually gave in because it felt so good. He sucked her bottom lip into his mouth, and he heard Sanem moan. He was running his hands up and down her back. Sanem put her hands under his shirt and was running her hands all over his chest. Can got to her ear and whispered he wanted her badly. She admitted she wanted him too, but they shouldn't. Can asked her why. Sanem said it would just make things more difficult when they walked away from each other. Can said he was not walking away from her and he was not letting her walk away from him. Sanem told him it wasn't going to work between them and asked why he couldn't see that. Can told her all he could see was that he loved her and wanted to get to know her again. He told her he wanted no other woman, just her. He asked her why she didn't believe him. She said because your Can Divit and beautiful woman fall at your feet. She told him there was no way he wanted her when he had his choice of anyone he wanted. Can yelled I want you...only you...nobody else!! Sanem had tears falling down her cheeks by this time. He asked her why she was crying. He didn't understand. Sanem looked into his eyes and told him she loved him but was scared to do this with him anymore. She told him she barely survived the last time he broke her heart and there was no way she would survive it a second time. Can embraced her and told her to stay next to him; he would protect her heart. Then he kissed her sweetly.

Can told her he wanted to make love to her again. He missed her and wanted to feel her next to him, over him and under him. Sanem laughed but took him by the hand and led him to her bedroom. She told him he had a way with words. He said nope. I have a way with you and now I will show you.
