LOOSING HOPE

RECONCILIATION

The next morning, Can and Sanem left for the agency. They had a lot of work to catch up on. Can decided he was going to talk to Nihat and Mevkibe today about the rift between them and Sanem. He could not stand to see his wife so sad and upset. He was not going to say anything to Sanem. At least, not yet. He did not want to get her hopes up. He would go in the afternoon while she was still working. They arrived at the agency, where all their friends ran to meet them. Sanem missed Muzzo, Deren and Cey Cey so much. They have become very dear to her heart. Can went into his office and Sanem arrived shortly after, with his cup of tea. He smiled and said he had missed this. Sanem told him she was going to get some work done. She gave him a quick kiss and left. Can opened up his laptop to check his e-mails.

It was afternoon and he decided to go visit Nihat and Mevkibe. He didn't let Sanem know he was leaving. He did not want to lie about where he was going. He got in his truck and headed to the district. He rang the doorbell, when he arrived. Mevkibe answered. She just stared at him and finally said hello, Can. Can asked to come in to talk to her and Nihat? She told him Nihat was at the grocery working, but he could come in and talk to her. Can said thank you and entered. Can took off his shoes and put on slippers. He followed Mevkibe into the sitting room. She asked what he wanted to talk about. He told her he wanted to talk about Sanem. He told Mevkibe that Sanem was devastated over the disagreement between them. Mevkibe told Can she went against their traditions. Can told her they were not given a choice. The last time they were engaged, it was impossible to get both their families to agree on anything. It turned into a 3-ring circus. It was tearing Sanem apart. He told her he knew how disappointed they are in him, for leaving Sanem for a year. He was honest with Mevkibe and told her he didn't like the person he was turning into. He told her about the burned notebook, the fight with Yigit and Sanem believing Yigit over him. He told her he had to leave. He had to find himself and better himself for Sanem. He wasn't what she deserved at that time. She deserved better. I came back after a year, not knowing what was going to happen. He told her he loved Sanem and thought of nothing else since the day he left.

Mevkibe was crying at this time. She had no idea all this happened. Sanem never talked about it. She was blaming Can this whole time, when it was both their faults, as well as, Yigit. Can told her he was very much in love with Sanem and her with him. He told Mevkibe you only have one true love in your life and his was Sanem. She was his half...his heart...his everything. He told her that Nihat and her had raised a wonderful daughter. She was beautiful, funny, practical, hard-working and had a huge heart. They had waited so long and had overcame numerous obstacles along the way to be together. They just didn't want to wait to be husband and wife. He told her if they wanted a traditional wedding, then they could still have one. He just wanted his wife happy. He also told her he wanted them to mend their rift because Nihat and Mevkibe were going to be grandparents. By this time, Mevkibe was sobbing loudly. She got up and embraced Can and told him she didn't know any of this. When he left, Sanem shut down completely. That is why she ended up in a mental hospital. Mevkibe told him how sorry she was for misjudging him. Unknown to them, Nihat was standing around the corner and heard everything. He was also sobbing. He missed his little bird so much and now his little bird was having a baby of her own. He decided to make his presence known.

Nihat stepped around the corner and observed Mevkibe and Can embracing. They saw him standing there and Mevkibe ran to him. She threw her arms around him and they sobbed together. Can just stood there in silence. When they calmed down, Nihat came over to Can and offered his hand. Can put his forehead on Nihat's hand and then kissed his hand. Nihat told Can how sorry he was. Like Mevkibe, he knew nothing about any of this. All he knew was his little bird was broken after Can left, and he blamed Can for the state she was in. He told him a father should never have to see their child flopping around in their arms like an injured bird. Can invited them to the farm tonight for dinner, so they could talk to Sanem. They accepted. Nihat boasted he was going to be a grandfather. He smiled brightly through his tears.

Can returned to the agency, but he stopped to pick up lunch for him and Sanem. When he got to his office, Sanem was waiting for him. She asked where he had been because she was worried. Can held up lunch. He told her he thought she would be hungry. She smiled and said she was starving. Can told her he invited a few friends over for dinner tonight. He asked her if that was OK. She said sure and then asked him who was coming. Can smiled and said it was a surprise. She said OK. They finished up their workday and headed home to start dinner for their guests. Sanem was curious on who Can invited. He would not budge on telling her. Dinner was almost done, and the table was set. A taxi pulled up outside. There was a knock at the door, and Sanem went to answer it. There stood her parents smiling brightly. Sanem threw herself into their arms and cried like a baby. She told them she has missed them so much. Sanem took them by their hands and pulled them inside. Can stood in the kitchen just smiling that toothy smile. Sanem ran to him and embraced him tightly. She whispered in his ear thank you and that she loved him so very much. He told her he did this for her because her happiness was his happiness.

They sat down to eat the dinner Can and Sanem prepared. Nihat told Sanem he heard he was going to be a grandfather. Sanem looked at Can and smiled. She told her father yes, he was. She watched her father's eyes tear up. He took Sanem by the hand and told her she was his little bird and always would be. He told her how proud of the young woman she has turned out to be. He has never once been disappointed in her and never will. He looked at his daughter and told her he was happy she found someone to protect her when the storms came. He looked at Can and told him he was happy that Can would be the one protecting his little bird when the storms came. Nihat then told Can he would soon have a beautiful child to protect when the storms came and wanted to know if Can was up for it. Can looked into Nihat's eyes and told him I am most definitely up for it and I will protect them both with my life. Nihat said that is all he could ask of him. He then hugged Can and told him welcome to the family.

Nihat and Mevkibe left after dinner clean up was complete. They hugged and kissed their daughter and son-in-law. Sanem jumped into Can's arms after they left and kissed his face all over. She kept saying thank you after each kiss. She told him he has made her so happy. Can said your happiness, is my happiness. Your sadness is my sadness. Your pain is my pain. He told her he could not sit by and watch his beloved be so sad. Sanem told him she loved him and was so happy he was her one and only. Can said forever.
