LOOSING HOPE

SANEM WAKES UP

Can stayed at the hospital all night with Sanem. He just could not leave her. He sat beside her bed, holding her hand all night. He talked to her about everything ad nothing. He begged her to wake up and look at him. He kissed her temple every now and then. Her fever was gone, and she was no longer perspiring. If only she would just wake up. Can called Mihriban and his dad to update them on Sanem's condition. They told him to stay as long as he needed. Their children were safe. Can thanked them. Can would leave Sanem long enough to use the restroom or grab a soda. Other then those things, he never left her side. Can asked himself how he didn't realize that something was seriously wrong with Sanem. As soon as she complained about that pain, he should have brought her straight to the hospital. She would have fought it, but he could have persuaded her. Now, she was still unconscious, and it ended up being more serious than either of them thought. Can got up from the chair and headed to the other side of Sanem's hospital bed. He just wanted to hold his precious wife. He laid down beside her and wrapped her in his arms. He was still able to smell her fragrance, so he inhaled deeply. It was like a drug to Can. It made him dizzy and weak. He fell asleep holding her tightly.

Soon it was morning, and the sun's rays shined through the window. Can woke up slowly, forgetting where he was for a moment. He looked down and saw Sanem still asleep. He kissed her temple and got out of the bed. He went to the restroom and to grab another soda. When he returned the doctor was in the room. He told Can her fever was gone, and all of her vitals were good. The appendix incision looked great with no signs of infection. They were continuing to push the medication through the IV to flush out the toxics from the appendix rupture. The doctor told Can that she should be waking up soon. Can thanked the doctor and then he sat in the chair next to her bed. He grabbed her hand and held it.

Can continued to talk to her. He told her their children were safe with Mihriban and his father. He told her the kids missed her....her family missed her, and he missed her terribly. He just wanted her to wake and smile that beautiful smile at him. He caressed her face...played with her hair...kissed her lips a few times. He stood up to stretch his legs and to look out the window. He was lost in his own thoughts when Sanem's parents walked in. Mevkibe went over to her daughter and kissed her cheek. Nihat came over to Can and asked if he a had heard anything. Can repeated what the doctor had told him. Can said they were just waiting for her to wake up. Nihat patted his shoulder and said thank you, son. Nihat went over to Sanem and kissed his daughter on the cheek. They stayed with Sanem for about an hour and then had to get back to the grocery store. Can promised to keep them updated.

Can laid back down beside his wife and held her. He whispered words of love in her ear. He kissed her temple, her cheek, her nose and then her lips. He must have dozed off again because he awoke with the somebody touching his beard. Can slowly opened his eyes and looked straight into Sanem's eyes. She was smiling weakly. She said hello, my love. Can smiled, kissed her lips and said hello, my beloved. Sanem asked him where she was. Can explained that she was in the hospital and why. Sanem said she didn't remember very much. She remembered feeling sick and running to bathroom to vomit. That was about all she remembered. Can told her he found her passed out the bedroom floor. He called for an ambulance and called Mihriban to come be with the kids. The rest is history, he said. Sanem asked him if he has been home. Can said no. He has been here the whole time. Sanem asked if he has eaten. Can told her no. He had no appetite and he did not want to leave her. Sanem, being Sanem, gave Can hell for not eating. Sanem asked him if he wanted to end up in a hospital room too. Can smiled and said only if we are roommates. Sanem smiled and said this is not funny, Can. She told him he had to take better care of himself. Can said his wife takes care of him at home. So, there was no worries. Sanem laughed and then groaned in pain. Her incision was extremely painful. Can went and got a nurse.

The nurse entered with some pain medication to put through Sanem's IV. She told Sanem it may make her sleepy. Sanem groaned and said it feels like she has already slept a year. The nurse said she would let the doctor know that Sanem had woken up. Sanem asked Can if she would be OK without an appendix. Can told her what the doctor said. She would still live a normal life with the appendix. Sanem said good because she was a little worried. Can told her he loved her. Sanem told him she loved him so very much. Sanem slowly drifted back off to sleep. Can called the Aydin's, Leyla and Mihriban to let them know she woke up. He told them she was in pain, so they medicated her. Now she was sleeping once again.

Can decided to do what Sanem requested. He down to the hospital cafeteria and grabbed a couple sandwiches and a soda. He took it back to Sanem's room to eat it. He did not want to leave her for very long, in case she woke up again. Once he was back in her room, he downed the two sandwiches and the soda. He felt a little better after that. He sat back down in the chair beside her bed. Emre walked in holding a bag. Can asked what was in the bag. He told Can clean clothes, so Can could shower. Can said he didn't want to leave her. Emre said he would sit with her while he got cleaned up. Can took a shower in Sanem's bathroom. He dressed in clean clothes and brushed his teeth. He felt 100% better now. He thought he was growing fuzz on his teeth.

When he came back into the room, Sanem was awake once again. Emre was sitting next to her talking to her. Sanem said hello, my handsome husband. Can gave her a quick kiss and said hello, my beautiful phoenix. Sanem smiled at the endearment. Sanem told him he smelt so good. She told Can she needed a shower so bad. Can told her he would ask the nurse when she could get cleaned up. The nurse told Can that would be up to the doctor. She would call him and then come let Can know. Can went back to the room to find Leyla and Emre both there visiting Sanem. Sanem looked so happy to see her sister. Can told Sanem they were waiting for the doctor to decide if she could shower or not. The nurse came in and told Can she could shower but the doctor wanted to wait until this evening. She would also need help. Can told her he would help her. Emre had packed some of Sanem's hygiene items in the bag he brought Sanem.

Later that night, Sanem was told she could shower. She had to use a waterproof binder over her incision to avoid getting it wet. Sanem said that was fine. Can helped Sanem to the restroom. He helped her undress and put the waterproof binder on. Sanem said in a shower chair in case she got dizzy. Can slowly washed and conditioned her beautiful hair. He then washed her body softly. Once she was rinsed, he helped her out the shower. He replaced her hospital gown with a new one. Sanem then brushed her teeth. Can applied her cream to her neck and towel dried her hair. He walked her back to the bed, where Can brushed her hair. Sanem said she felt so much better now. Can helped her to lay back down.

The doctor came in once again. He told Sanem and Can everything looked good. He said if it remained that way, he would release her in the morning. She would need a lot of help at home. Can told the doctor not a problem. He would see that she was looked after 24/7. The doctor left and Can laid back down beside his wife. He told her she smelled good enough to eat. Sanem giggled and said thank you. Can held her until they both drifted off to dream land.
