Chapter 56: knowing your way around

Ross' POV

So. We're driving. I'm trying not to focus too much on Ryland's faint sobs.

He's quiet, but I'm his brother. I know him. If I wasn't sitting in the row in front of him, I would give him a hug. Wait...

"Laura," I whisper "why are you sweating?"

"I'm sweating?" She says to herself "I didn't think I was that nervous"

"Nervous?"

She sighs. "Rikki's the one who brought us together. I don't know why, but I feel like without rikki, there's no us."

"I agree," I say grabbing her hand "but I don't need anyone but you laur."

"I'm sorry ross. You may not need your best friend, but I need my sister. Cuz I sure as hell wouldn't be who I am today without her"

Oh. That's not what I meant. I think I'll just let her cool off.

Riker sighs. "We're here" he says with no emotion

We all get out of the car. I help everyone get out. Rylands the last. He doesn't make eye contact but I can see his tears. I give him a quick meaningful hug.

He doesn't show any facial expression, but he hugs back.

We walk up to the door together.

"Wait! Did we seriously come all the way here without a plan?" Ratliff asks

"Oh I came with a plan" vanessa says

"What?" We all ask

"Beat the motherfuckin-jerk-who-kidnapped-my-sister 's ass"

"Okaaaaayyy then" (rocky)

"Guys! Just walk in quietly, don't be noticeable, and try to find rikki: simple" I say

"And Grace!" Says rockaith

Wait did I just call them rockaith. Oh I'm gonna be so dead.

We attempted the living room window but that failed so now we're going to use the ladder from the shed to climb to the roof then try to get ryland in through the kitchen window. Then he'll let all of us in.

...Okay so that didn't happen. Aaron left the Garage door wide open and didn't lock the door either. Anyway. We walk through the house. Its actually pretty quiet. That's a good thing, right?

"This can't be good" (riker)

Or not. Okay so I was wrong.

We all split up.

Laura and Vanessa.
Ratliff and Rocky.
Riker and Rydel.
Ryland and me.
Faith is just pretty much everywhere since she knows the place.

Vanessa and Laura to the top floor.
Ratliff and rocky took the main floor
Riker and rydel checked the family room...which is pretty small btw, the yards, and the garage.
Ryland just walked away down to the basement .

"Gee thanks for waiting." I say. I jog down the stairs to catch up with him.

Wait how did he know where to go?

Everyone is pretty much looking for anything that either is them or can help us find them.

"Damn that's a long window" I say looking at the curtain. Before I can walk over vanessa calls everyone.

"Guys. Here." Vanessa calls us from upstairs.

Ryland just walks up the stairs.... Without me.

He's taking this really hard. I sigh and follow him up to where Vanessa is.
By the time I'm there everyone is crowding a doorway.

"Guys what are you looking at?"

"Rikki's room" they all answer

I push my way through them to find...
