Chapter 83: thoughts that lie ahead

< The Next Morning: 12/18 >
"Okay. Everything's packed up so I guess we're ready to go." Stormie says looking at all the boxes in the driveway
"Should I call the kids?" Mark asks
"Not yet. Let me feed them breakfast and then we'll get in the car."
"Okay. Save me some food. I'll call the truck and have them take the boxes"
Stormie nods and walks inside as mark calls the truck company.
She grabs her phone and sends a text.
She smiles and closes her phone.
"KIDS! BREAKFAST!"
Rikki's the first to get down.
Ross passes her but turns around. "Happy Birthday, bestie!" He says putting his arm around her neck.
"Thanks, bestie" she kisses his cheek
Riker comes down not to long later. "Oh, happy seventeenth sis"
"Thanks bro!" She says laughing
The rest of them come down; passing Rikki without saying a word.
- after eating -
"That was amazing! Thanks mom!" Rydel squeals
"Yeah. It was the best thing I could've asked for." Ross says
"Well duh. We had pancakes. You love pancakes." Riker shoots at him
"My point exactly" ross responds
Riker rolls his eyes and finishes his food.
"I still think Mac and Cheese would've been better." Rocky says
"Me too." Ratliff says with a mouth full of food "but thanks storms!"
Stormie laughs "you're welcome kids."
"Cmon! I'm Not a kid. I'm 23." Riker says
"You're my kid." Stormie says fluffing his hair
Vanessa sits there watching Rikki.
Laura stands at the edge of the table; her face cringing every time rikki's fork screeches against the plate
"Sweetie, you have to eat." Ryland says
They all look over at Rikki.
"For the baby." He finishes as he places her hands on her stomach.
She looks at him hoping he remembers.
"What's wrong?" He says lifting her face
She pushes his hand away and continues picking at her food.
Laura grabs the fork and tosses it behind not caring where it lands.
Rikki sighs. She picks up the fork, takes her plate, and places everything in the sink. She does the same with everyone else's things
"I STILL WANT MAC AND CHEESE" rocky yells
The microwave alarms and Rikki walks over. She takes the bowls out and gives them to rocky and Ratliff.
"Aww. Thanks sis!" Ell says digging in
"YUMMY! Now let's get you in my tummy." Rocky says
Rikki smiles ever so slightly as she walks up the stairs bringing her bags down.
