Chapter twenty four: Destruction

When I pulled up to my apartment, all I saw was cops surrounding the place. Red and blue lights blaring through the darkness of the night, making every street light look dim.

I parked then immediately got out and walked over to where Jace was standing with an officer. He saw me and I could see nothing but panic in his eyes.

"What's going on?"

Jace looks at me for a moment before looking over at the officer. Once he walks away, I step closer to Jace as I was waiting for a response.

"Someone broke into our apartment."

Looking over at our apartment, I looked back at him. "What?" I follow Jace into the apartment and what I saw was nothing but complete destruction.

Everything was wrecked, broken, destroyed.

"What the hell happened?" I looked around at everything, walking into the living room and the kitchen and seeing nothing but complete wreckage.

I turned towards Jace as he was leaning against the wall, staring at everything. "I don't know. I was gone somewhere then when I came back," He motions around. "it was like this. I called the police not a second after."

"What did they say? What are they doing about it?" I cross my arms.

He shrugs. "They said they'll do what they can."

I shook my head then walked past him, outside to where that officer was. I waited until he was done talking to someone then he turns towards me.

"I wanna know who the hell did this." I motion at the apartment. "Do ya'll have an investigation team?"

"Look, we're doing what we can."

Crossing my arms, I look at him. "And what's that?"

He stares at me, not phased by my attitude. "We'll send an investigation team out here but it might not do any good."

I roll my eyes as he turns away from me and talks to another officer. This was complete bullshit and of course the police around here weren't going to do anything about it.

"Micah," Jace calls out. I walk out to him and we stand near the apartment. "I noticed something.."

"What?"

He looks around for a moment. "Whoever broke into our apartment, didn't steal anything. Everything is still there. They just trashed the whole place."

"The whole place?" He nods. "Our rooms? The bathrooms?"

"I don't understand who could have done this."

I thought for a moment and instantly knew who could be behind this.

Before I could tell Jace, one of the officers calls us over to him. We walk over and stand near him as he looks down at a small notepad then up at us with a smile on his face.

"I just wanna ask you some questions regarding the break-in." We both nodded and waited for him to proceed. "Where were you both at the time?"

Jace explains where he was then the officer wrote something down. He looks at me next and asks me the same the question.

"I was with a friend."

He wrote that down then asks us more questions, which didn't relate to anything at all. Up until the last question he asked.
