10th July 2018I can proudly admit that during the world cup, it was literally the drunkest and most hectic time of my life. I don't even know how my body handled that enormous amount of alcohol that was poured into my system. Maybe because, I was young and everything is much easier when you're 16 right?
We were on our way to Robins place and by we I mean: Emily, Mike, Bruce and myself. Andrew was already waiting for us. Robin actually lived at the very end of the city, in a tiny studio that he was renting. The maximum amount of people that it would fit was maximum of 15 and all of them would have to stand next to each other; cramped because they wouldn't be able to move anywhere.
"Lou you plonker, this is the last time you get the AUX cord. If you can't keep a song playing for at least 3 minutes then DON'T PLAY IT" Exclaimed my dad, he hated when people constantly kept on switching songs when they haven't finished yet. What can I say though, I get bored pretty quickly and if there's a lit song lined up next I want to play it immediately. While I was jamming at the front seat of the car, Emily, Mike and Bruce sat silently at the back of the car listening to my dad complain and sharing a few laughters.
Once we got out of the car; we watched my dad drive off until he disappeared out of our sight. I looked up at the tall building in front of me, fixed my bag that was hanging on my right shoulder and said, "Let's get messy, loud and sick" "Hell yah..." answered me Bruce and we proceeded to go inside the building. Andrew was already downstairs waiting for us and from the way that he was standing, it was obvious that he wasn't sober.
"Emily..." the boy mumbled as he kissed my sister, the rest of us just stood and watched awaiting Andrews notice. We greeted each other and made our way to the elevator, it was a tiny cramped box. Claustrophobic material if you ask me. Bruce leaned back on the mirror as I was squashed in the tight corner by the rest of the people. It smelled like piss and sweat. Typical.
Robins apartment was even more ridiculous though. Like I described before, it was a tiny studio and he wasn't bothered to pay for the air conditioning so he would place a skate board at his front door that led to the corridor and just steal the cold air. Genius if you ask me.
Anyway, we entered the apartment and straight away I approached his queen-sized bed, dropped my bag on the tile floor and collapsed on the surface face down. After a few seconds I rolled over and sat up while pulling out my phone. There was a message from Adam which I immediately opened.
Adam🌺: Be careful tonight, have fun I love you
I smiled at my screen and replied with a simple heart emoji. Once I locked my phone and connected it to the charger; my eyes wandered up to see Bruce in the kitchen just simply pulling out two beers out of the fridge. I felt a little blush creep over my face but I quickly shook it off after remembering Adams message.
"Aw! how thoughtful of you, you got me a beer as well. Thanks" I said as I was walking towards him. He chuckled "Hands off! Nobody said its for you" He added as he put the beer in the back pocket of his jeans and began to walk towards the balcony as he was already sipping on the other beer. "You egotistical asshole!" I laughed as I got myself a beer for myself. Before I could turn around I felt an icy shiver go down my neck and spine. I jolted and turned around, "I was just playing" Bruce handed me the beer, I smiled at him and the two of us walked out at the balcony to smoke.
That's where the party was happening, while Robin was trying to find a streaming website, the rest of us sat at his balcony just drinking and laughing the night away. I leaned on the cold railing while holding a cigarette in my right hand and a beer in my left; listening to everybody's conversation and hearing the laughter echo around the balcony. Inhaling the nicotine and letting it flow through my veins. I observed as my friends talked about memories, some of them involved me but some of them didn't.
I felt at piece, knowing that I'm finally free from drama- not exactly, I had Bruce and Adam on my mind. How every minute I spent with Bruce made me fall for him more and more, driving me away from Adam. It wasn't nice but at the same time I sort of liked it, hoping that one day Bruce might return my feelings.
"I FOUND IT!" screamed Robin, my thoughts immediately transferred to the living room where we all headed to and tried to squeeze ourselves on those small couches. Before I entered the house I had to put out my cigarette just to find that there isn't any place left for me. I ended up sitting on one of the edges of the couch while sipping on my beer.
90 minute game and I was already 4 beers in, feeling dizzy and really excited even though it wasn't even my country who was playing, I couldn't care less though. I was having fun.
Once the game finished, all of us went out to the balcony again and stayed there for the remainder of the night. This time I was sitting on a stool because apparently I 'could not hold my balance anymore' as Bruce kept on reminding me. Which was NOT true, I have a very strong head, I can handle my booze-most of the time at least. We ended up having deep conversations about life once Emily and Andrew went to the bathroom. Mike was leaning on the railing this time with Bruce next to him while Robin and I were sitting down. All of us pretty drunk at this point. However it was almost 2 a.m and we had to leave soon. Mike was staying over at ours because he lives far away and Bruce had to sober up since he had to walk home.
It didn't take long for the Uber to arrive, I grabbed my drunk and tired sister along with two of my other drunk friends and we proceeded to the Uber. Andrew and Robin walked us down and hugged us all goodbye- maybe gave us some left over beers that Bruce happily accepted; of course.
I remember sitting by the window watching the now blurry street lights pass by as we speeded home. At that moment I felt Bruce place his large head on my shoulders and gently caressing my arm. I won't deny, I liked it. I embraced that moment and that is why I remember it till today. I slid my arm under his and now we were sort of tangled in each others arms (if that makes any sense) his soft breaths were hitting my skin and I smiled to myself as I rested my head on his; I closed my eyes and drifted off to a small slumber.
