Tai was what we call a goody-two-shoes.
He listened to his parents, got all A's, was on the soccer team, and never broke the rules.
And then he met Yamato Ishida.
The kid who wore emo clothes and was quiet and brooding. He was a mystery.
Tai wore pretty pinks and purples and other various pastel colors. He wore dresses and sweaters.
Yamato's wardrobe consisted of black. And dark shades of various colors. The occasional pastel here or there if Tai made him add color.
Yamato went by Matt.
When Tai met Matt, he was 14 and he was going to a summer camp.
Now he was 14 and sitting at home.
Tai's parents let Tai have almost anything, as long as it didn't distract him.
Matt was not part of that.
He was a kind of "mysterious" that Tai's parents didn't allow him to have.
"He's a troublemaker!" His mother warned.
"He isn't good enough for OUR boy!" His father declared.
Tai was told to stay away from him. That the farthest they could ever be was friends. Because, as his parents said, Matt was a dangerous boy.
Tai was a good boy. He would never break the rules.
Tai laughed at the thought of that as he crept out of his window.
Of course, he followed rules. There was just one rule he had to break.
That was the rule about dating.
He was allowed to date anyone EXCEPT 'that Ishida boy,' as his parents called him.
Hey, forbidden fruit, am I right?
Tai hugged himself, shivering, even though he had a sweater on.
It was cold, and he wanted a different kind of warm.
He slid down the roof's tiles, as he'd practiced before, and landed on his feet, safely on the ground.
Matt lived with his father and his sister, Jessica.
Matt's father was working a late night shift tonight and Jessica was at a sleepover.
Tai smiled as he walked up to Matt's apartment building and let himself in.
Tai didn't keep secrets.
Except for Matt.
Tai walked in, brushing off his striped sweater and his soft-blue jean shorts.
No wonder he was cold, he was in shorts.
Tai shut the door and began to walk to Matt's room, but he heard the clearing of a throat from the kitchen. That "ahem" noise you do to get someone's attention.
Tai went to the kitchen and saw his boyfriend taking a pan of cookies out of the oven and setting them out to cool.
As soon as he was done, Matt turned around and smiled his usual cocky smile, that looked more like a smirk.
Tai smiled and outstretched his arms. Matt stepped forward and hugged him.
"You should be wearing pants in this weather," the blonde muttered quietly. Tai nodded, "I know."
Matt sighed as he pulled back, ruffling Tai's hair. "Remind me again why you go to such lengths to do your hair?"
Tai pulled back and did jazz hands, "Aesthetic!" He exclaimed happily, grinning brightly.
Did Tai ever just smile? Without it being bright and bubbly?
The answer is no.
Tai swore he'd never take drugs.
Matt's love was his drug.
He was reminded of this when they departed and Tai already felt an aching in his heart.
A longing to be back with his beloved.
For now, the teens sat on Matt's bed, laughing and telling corny jokes. Matt saying flirtatious ones, Tai getting flustered...
And then it was 11:00 PM.
And Tai had to depart. They shared their last kiss of the night before Tai left to go home.
As he slipped back inside and shut his window, his mom knocked on the door.
"Come in!" He called, swiftly picking up a book.
His mother walked in, smiling upon seeing her boy.
"It was so quiet, I nearly thought you weren't even here!" she laughed softly, "Well. Goodnight, Tai."
"G'night, mom." He said as she walked out of the room and closed the door.
If she only knew...
