Caliah stared at herself in the mirror.
She sighed as she tried to see something beautiful about herself.
She stared at herself for a moment before sighing as she took off the dress she had been wearing.
She instead traded it for a sweater that was a size or two too big for her, along with a pleated white skirt that went to her knees.
Caliah nodded. It was acceptable.
She quickly applied some makeup, concealer, contour, lipstick, everything she could do to make herself look actually decent.
And she walked downstairs and grabbed her bag. She looked at the kitchen.
She skipped breakfast.
-------------
Caliah walked up to her 'friends', Tristan, Isaiah, Blake, Noah, and Savanna.
She sighed as their voices became a buzz when she drowned them out.
Sometimes she wished that she had never met the popular kids.
She wished that her siblings loved her.
She wanted to know where her father was.
She wished her mom was all there.
She wished that she had real friends...
"Caliah." Savanna's voice brought her back to reality.
Savanna stared at Caliah for a moment's time before rolling her eyes. "Go to the bathroom and fix your makeup."
Savanna did this every morning.
It was always something about Caliah's appearance.
Fix her hair, fix her makeup, change her shirt, wear colored contacts, fix her jewelry.
Today it was makeup.
Caliah just simply nodded as she walked into the bathroom and "fixed" her makeup, aka blend it a bit more and add certain things here and there.
She stared at herself in the mirror.
Layers and layers of makeup, hair pinned up and pretty, a fake smile plastered on her face.
The smile faded as Caliah stared at her image in the mirror.
And then the tears started rolling down her cheeks.
she wiped her makeup off and allowed herself to cry.
She didn't cry often, but when she did, she would basically have a mental breakdown.
Hot tears streaming down her face, shaking, while sobs escaped her mouth.
She didn't hear when the door swung open.
---------------------------------
Sayako was recounting the story of the time She, Coral and Holly upset a hive of bees.
It was not a good experience for any of them.
But then she heard crying. Not just crying.
Muffled hand-over-the-mouth, someone is having a panic attack, sobs.
So she stopped and started walking towards the sound.
Everyone else followed.
It was in the all-gender bathroom. She opened the door and saw...
"Caliah?"
She was in disbelief.
Caliah wiped her face and turned around.
"I.. um, I..."
Was all she said.
Then she went silent.
Tears started rolling down her face again.
"Caliah, what... Happened?"
And then, she broke.
"I'm sorry," She whispered. "I-I happened."
She spoke with a sad smile and a heartbroken look in her eyes.
"What?" Sayako asked. Everyone was basically silent in disbelief.
And then Caliah broke, again.
"Because Sayako, you have EVERYTHING that I've EVER wanted. A boyfriend, a boyfriend who CARES. Both of your parents, who are both supportive of you, siblings who LOVE YOU. I.. I brought you down because I... You have everything. And I have.. Nothing."
She said in between quiet sobs, as tears strolled down her pale face again.
Sayako simply hugged her tightly.
Caliah tensed before hugging back, mumbling broken apologies.
"shh, it's okay.. It's okay, don't worry..."
Sayako looked back over her shoulder and shooed the digidestined kids away.
Sora dragged them all away.
Caliah let go as Sayako looked back at her.
"T-thank you.. I-I'm sorry for... everything..." Caliah muttered as she wiped the rest of her tears away.
Sayako shook her head. "Caliah, it's okay. I promise. My life is, kind of fucked up too. My dad died when I was 10, but he's.. Somehow back. I have a lot of baggage, it's... Not pretty."
Caliah nodded. "My.. My dad left when I was younger. He said that he was going on a drive and he'd be back in a couple hours, but... He's... Still not back."
The two went back and forth, explaining stories, crying and laughing together, and finally Sayako took a deep breath.
"Start over?" She asked, "Pretend that none of the things we've said to each other ever happened?"
Caliah smiled and nodded.
Sayako spun in a circle, smiling and putting her hand out. "Hi! I'm Sayako, Sayako Kaneki."
Caliah shook her hand while smiling, genuinely, for the first time in a while. "Caliah. I'm new."
------------------------------------
At lunch, Sayako looked at Caliah, where she was sitting alone, since she no longer hung out with the popular bitches.
Sayako and Harmony shared a glance before nodding.
Sayako sat on Caliah's left while Harmony sat on her right.
The rest of the group filled in.
Caliah looked beyond shocked.
"Hey new girl." Tai grinned, which made Caliah laugh.
Caliah could start over.
And so, she did.
