Sophie found Sandor the rest of her team back at the base.

They were all lying unconscious.

And the Neverseen members were gone.

"I don't get it," Sophie said, pacing around the Healing Center. "Why would they just leave? We found the dwarves and put up our safety parameters around the hideout, but they were really just gone! It was like they didn't care anymore!"

Sophie had found the rest of her team at the Neverseen base. The dwarves had been unconscious inside the base as well, but when they searched the hideout, it was completely deserted. Sophie had then hailed Mr. Forkle for help taking the rest of the team to Elwin.

Mr. Forkle simply gazed at her intently.

"And the dude I was fighting put up a pretty big fight," Sophie continued, pointing to her bandaged side. "He only let me go after I inflicted on him."

Mr. Forkle's eyebrows shot up. "You used your inflicting."

"Well um yeah! It was the only strategy I had left, and I was kinda desperate not to die in that moment. Uh... what??" Sophie asked when Mr. Forkle began mumbling what sounded like incoherent nonsense to himself.

"You must have inflicted on the group and Neverseen as well. They fled while your group suffered the pain."

"Oh." Sophie wasn't sure what to say, so she pulled her hair around her to hide her face. Great. Her first and likely only chance to prove herself, and she had completely screwed it. Awesome. Amazing. Fantastic. Terrific. Spectacular.

Mr. Forkle seemed to know what she had been thinking, maybe because he had read her mind, because he said it wasn't her fault.

Yeah, right.

Sophie excused herself to go jump off a cliff.
