It was easy to see that his mother didn't have a plan.
Of course, Lady Gisela usually just made it up as she went, and most of the time it worked out great.
Emphasis on most of the time.
Keefe knew that this was not one of those times, however.
He knew this the second he was within the distance to feel the emotions of Sophie Foster.
He couldn't see them, as they were using obscurers, but the Neverseen's Technopath had developed a special type of null, one that even the most advanced elvin technologies couldn't resist against, and therefore it was only a matter of time before Sophie and whoever was with her became visible. He could tell from her emotions that she was panicking, and that led him to the realization that she didn't have a plan either.
There was no way this was going to end well.
There had to be something he could do. He was no longer included in the Neverseen's plans due to his mother's suspicions, but he did remember clearly the few meetings he had been to.
And maybe that was enough.
Sophie was a Telepath, an extremely powerful one at that, and while he might be wrong, he was sure that the thinking caps all the Neverseen members now wore wouldn't work on her.
Which meant that she might be able to read his mind.
If she did, if he was right, maybe this could be Keefe's chance at redemption.
A chance to prove that he wasn't the villain Sophie thought him to be.
Here goes nothing.
"Sophie Foster," Lady Gisela's voice boomed, loud and clear over the noise of the muggles. Keefe jumped as she continued speaking. "It would do you no good to continue hiding. Come out, before we make you."
Keefe wasn't even concerned by this threat, knowing that any sane person would stay hidden until the last possible moment, just in case any means of escape presented itself.
Which may have been why his jaw dropped wide open and knees gave out as he watched Sophie Foster emerge from the center of the crowd.
