The next day....
Sophie woke up to a rainy morning. (A/N idk if it rains in the Lost Cities cuz like if u think about it in the entire KOTLC series there's nothing about rainy days sooooooo idk the setting just kinda seems right if u get what I mean) The air was humid, and raindrops clung to the glass of her floor-to-ceiling windows. The weather reflected her mood--gloomy and depressed.
Sophie forced herself out of bed, forced herself to change, forced herself to run a brush through her hair, and forced herself to trudge downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast.
What was the point anymore? She would be on house arrest for the rest of her life.
All because I screwed up the one thing I needed to get right, Sophie thought bitterly.
Grady was out doing Emmissary things for the Council, and, according to the scribbled note on the table, Edaline was out running some errands. Sophie had the whole house and day to herself to sulk and mope around.
Not that it did her any good.
The second she had sat down to eat her breakfast, the bell rang. (A/N again, do they have doorbells in the Lost Cities?? I think im thinking of this like its in real life, but HONESTLY how u gonna know if someone standing on your porch in front of ur door if y'all don't have doorbells huh?) When Sophie answered the door, she found teal eyed girl, and a strawberry blond boy standing in front of her.
"Geez Soph, how long does it take you to answer a door huh? Its cold out here! Do you really want your two best friends to freeze to death in temperatures like this, all because you were to slow and lazy to open the door for us?" Biana asked with her arms crossed.
When Sophie didn't smile, Biana let out a long breath. "You must be sad."
"Uh this is Sophie Foster," Dex said, "she's super sensitive about things she shouldn't even be affected by!"
"Did you come here just to torment me? And also," Sophie said, eyeing Dex, "you're off bed rest early."
"Yeah, Elwin took me off this morning. There wasn't any long term damage done. And it wasn't your fault." Dex added when Sophie stared at her feet. "You were just defending yourself. Nobody blames you. So quit beating yourself up."
Sophie tugged at her lashes. "You think they'll give me another chance?"
"Oh I know they'll give you another chance. You're the Moonlark!" Dex said, grinning. "You've got all these powers and and your scary smart, and--don't you think you should have a cooler name, by the way? The Moonlark sounds kinda, I dunno, not cool."
Before Sophie could reply, Biana jumped up. "I've got it! She can be the Great Lady Fos-Boss!" (A/N, yes I just took a name from Legacy because I can't think of anything better. Sry ppl who value originality--Ive got none of that lol)
Sophie rolled her eyes. "You guys are ridiculous, you know that?"
Dex smiled. "Oh, we know, Lady Fos-Boss!"
He ducked out of the way before Sophie could smack him.
