Sophie swallowed hard. She really, really, really didn't want to die like this.
She hadn't come to terms with Fitz; she hadn't achieved all the life goals she'd set for herself.
She hadn't even admitted her feelings to Keefe.
...well, maybe she could do one of those things.
But
What if he didn't feel the same way about her?
What if he only liked her as a friend?
What if he rejected her?
Keefe broke her train of thoughts by sliding down against the wall with a big sigh. He looked so upset, so...
Broken
It was as if something was tearing him apart inside.
Sophie couldn't stand to see him like this. Slowly and carefully she approached Keefe, and sat down next to him and gave him a big hug. He looked like he really needed it.
Keefe smiled and they stayed like that for a while, but a sudden realization dampened the mood.
They needed to escape.
Now.
"How long is going to take? Hurry up! We don't have all day!" whispered one of the Neverseen members, probably Gisela.
The two of them heard approaching footsteps, coming closer and closer to their hiding spot.
"I'm doing it as fast as I can. I don't see you helping at all!"replied one of the recruits.
As they continued to bicker, Sophie and Keefe used the weapons they had and took this time to prepare for a fight.
A fight which would probably result in their deaths.
Just before the footsteps stopped outside their door, Sophie made a very important decision.
A stupid one too, most likely.
She took a deep breath, fully aware that what she was about to do could have many, many, many consequences. She knew that this was so not the appropriate behavior for the current situation they were in. She knew that this could make Keefe hate her for eternity.
She knew that she might lose a friend.
Well, if they were both going to die, she might as well get this over with.
You only live once.
She took a last breath before turning to Keefe and pressing her lips against his.
