Keefe was laying on his bed, legs and arms spread out, throwing a tennis ball up and catching it right before it hit his face.
He was staying at Candleshade with his father. Lord Cassius had began to grow suspicious every time he and his mother left the house for days at a time to work with the Neverseen. His mother, Lady Gisela, was one of the leaders of the group, and therefore had to sneak away more than Keefe did. She had told her husband that she was out on a "day's shopping trip" in Atlantis today, but Keefe knew she was planning with the other Neverseen members. This new girl, this inflictor, was a "game-changer," as his mother had called it. She still wouldn't let her forget how the girl had gotten away from him.
Keefe couldn't forget it either.
He'd been replaying that scene over and over in his head, wondering where he had gone wrong. He knew that he had gone easy on her, but even if he hadn't, the situation was likely to turn out the same way it had before.
He got up and pulled a drawing out of his desk drawer.
Keefe hadn't gotten to see her very well, as he'd been more focused on trying to hurt her. He'd tried his best to recreate her face on paper, but even with his photographic memory, it was hard. Something about his drawing just didn't seem right, and Keefe had worked for hours into the night, trying to fix it.
It was kind of pathetic.
He was supposed to despise this girl. She was supposed to be his enemy.
Instead, of feeling hatred, however, he felt the complete opposite.
