Sophie was among the first to greet the returners from the mission: Dex, Grady, and Linh.

What she didn't expect was Tam, who had a gash on his cheek but still looked as surly as ever.

According to Dex, the Neverseen had once again turned what would've been an attack from the Black Swan in to an ambush. Lucky for the Black Swan, the Neverseen hadn't expected Tam, whom Linh had hailed last minute for backup. The enemy may have had a vast amount of resources and recruits, but none of that could even compare to how powerful the Song twins were together. The skills they'd picked up at Exillium added to their abilities themselves was a very impressive combination.

But what worried Sophie was that the Neverseen had been prepared for their attack. They'd known exactly when and where it would happen. If it weren't for Tam, the group might not have even come back safely.

The information of the attack could have been leaked in many ways. Sophie knew for a fact that the Neverseen had a Telepath on their side. She also knew that several of their members were good at disguising themselves. Although unlikely, it was fully possible that something along these situations had occurred.

But doubting everyone around her would only weaken her trust in her friends and family.

And to make matters worse, Keefe was still ignoring her. Every time she walked into a room, he left. Whenever she tried speaking with him, he gave one word answers before turning away.

And people thought girls were the complicated ones.

Sophie still had no idea what was bothering him. Just brainstorming up reasons made her head spin.

Sophie sighed and got off the couch, where she had been rereading the same sentence in her book for over an hour.

She might not have answers, but maybe someone else she knew did.
