"Took you long enough."

Sophie cleared her throat and shot her most menacing glare at Keefe. The kind of glare that suggests someone may die a painful death. However, this didn't seem to faze him, as he kept smirking at her and looking at something on the top of her head.

"Excuse me, I woke up before you."

"No, you didn't, I woke up, then slept, then woke up again, slept again, woke up--"

"Yes Keefe! I get it!" Sophie was exhausted, and she knew she would lose the few brain cells she had left if she listened to Keefe go on and on.

Keefe was still grinning at her, and Sophie, who was already infuriated with him, couldn't hold the question in any longer.

"What?"

"Nice hair."

Sophie patted the top of her head, and realized her hair was sticking up like the top of a pineapple.

Well that's embarrassing.

She had a feeling that even if she tried brushing it right now, all she would succeed in was making the tangles worse.

"So," Sophie said, steering the conversation away from her messy hair, "how's the arm?"

Keefe glanced down at his still-bandaged wrist and shrugged. Judging by the amount of empty bottles on the bedside table next to him, Elwin had made Keefe drink at least a dozen elixirs.

Not that Sophie was faring much better.

Her head was still pounding, and she could still smell the sickly sweet scent on the cloth the Neverseen had pressed to her nose.

It wasn't fair. She had all these powers that were to supposedly "help her save the freaking elvin world," but she couldn't stay conscious in a small battle.

Kinda pathetic.

But it didn't matter anymore. As soon as she was off bed rest, she would be training like she meant it.

Like it was life and death.

Because it was, for her, her friends, and so many others.

"Yo. Earth to Foster. Don't zone out on me again." Keefe's voice jolted her back to the present, and reminded her of her current predicament.

In the Healing Center.

With an aching head.

And the worst conversation partner ever.

She sighed. This was going to be a long week of recovering.

~~~~~~~~~~~
