The Forbidden Cities definitely wasn't on Keefe's "Places To Visit Again" list.
In fact, he'd likely put them on his "Don't Ever Visit Again Unless You Want To Feel Like Your Heart Is Slowly Being Ripped Out Of Your Chest" list.
Not that he had such a sort of list.
Then again, maybe this would be a good time to start.
No matter where he looked, a tiny bit of his heart chipped away.
If this continued, he probably wouldn't have a heart anymore.
There were people, refugees sitting on the sides of the street, begging for food or clothes while all the pedestrians ignored them and kept walking. The scent of ashes was everywhere. Several of the buildings looked scorched and irreparable.
And worst of all, he realized why.
This is what the Neverseen do, Keefe.
They only knew how to destroy, and with them ruling the elvin world, the Lost Cities would crumble.
Demolished. Razed. Eradicated.
Keefe stopped his train of thoughts and shoved it to the back of his mind, in a box labeled "Do Not Think About Ever Again."
Now definitely wasn't the time to worry about what might happen to his home after the Neverseen won the war.
Of course, the Neverseen would win. They had more recruits, more resources, more power than the Black Swan ever would.
Sure, they had the Sophie Foster wild card, but even her abilities could only go so far. Not even trained properly, she had no idea what she was even capable of.
So in the end, the Neverseen would prevail, resulting in the elvin world being destroyed.
Demolished. Razed. Eradicated.
That stupid mental box needed a better lock.
"Keefe."
Keefe jumped as his name was called, his mom suddenly materializing next to him. She yanked his hood up so it covered his face. His oversized robe hid his arms and legs underneath the thick fabric.
"Show yourself when I say so. Until then, remain silent and hidden."
He nodded. Whatever she was going to do to the members of the Black Swan they had caught using their security cameras placed around the plaza couldn't be that horrible.
Right?
