Keefe was wreck.
He knew it was all his fault that Sophie was captured.
All his fault that Sophie hated him.
All his fault that Sophie was hurt.
It was all his fault.
In other words: Keefe was guilty.
If he didn't do anything to fix that, his mind would shatter and the only person who could fix him hated him.
Keefe had to find Sophie; tell her that he was helpless, tell her that their kiss meant the world to him.
Sadly, escaping the Neverseen hideout with his mom tracking his every move seemed impossible, let alone convincing Sophie to hear him out.
He knew she now hated him and everything he represented. He didn't have to be an Empath to know she was furious.
To make matters worse, Gisela had become even more watchful of him, ever since Sophie had escaped. She was sure that Keefe had helped her in some way, although she had no proof. And although Keefe wished it wasn't true, he hadn't done anything to help her.
Alvar had been on guard duty while she was being held. Keefe had heard he'd gotten quite a beating after Sophie had escaped. He'd seen Alvar only once after, but he had some nasty bruises.
Lady Gisela had been angrier than ever. Her eyes had literally glowed red with rage, and she'd taken it out on everyone else.
Including Keefe.
It wasn't like he wasn't used to it, and Gisela was being exceptionally harsh, but a tiny part of his heart had chipped away when she yelled at him.
After all, she was the one he'd betrayed Sophie for. She was the reason he was now sitting in his room, wondering if he'd made the right choice.
She was the reason he was feeling so guilty.
So...broken
You never realize how important decisions are until you make the wrong ones.
And right now, Keefe Sencen was realizing how wrong he'd been.
