Keefe snuck a glance at Sophie. Her eyes were wide open, her face and hands still messy from the all-you-can-eat sweet buffet they'd had moments earlier. Even from a distance, Keefe could feel the emotion of absolute terror.
He couldn't suppress his laughter, and collapsed in a fit of silent giggles as the footsteps passed by their door.
Sophie regained her composure quickly, and glared down at Keefe where he was still rolling on the floor. "Something funny?"
"You-your face," Keefe gasped between giggles. "You looked like you'd seen a ghost."
Sophie scowled and turned away from him, but not before Keefe saw the adorable blush forming on her cheeks.
Keefe got to his feet, brushed the crumbs off his chin, and offered Sophie his hand. She ignored it and stood up herself.
Great job, Keefe. You made her mad.
Keefe cleared his throat awkwardly. "Elwin's probably wondering where we are."
Sophie nodded. "Let's go."
They walked down the halls of Foxfire in silence, neither of them knowing exactly what to say.
As the two of them approached the doors of the Healing Center, Sophie finally looked at Keefe, her brown eyes warm as ever. "Thanks for taking me there today, Keefe," she said quietly.
Keefe shrugged and stared at the ground, praying that he wasn't blushing. "It was nothing."
Sophie shook her head, her blonde waves swishing along with the motion. "I mean it. Thank you." she smiled, a real, genuine smile.
And it was just for Keefe.
He grinned, "Anytime, Foster."
Sophie strode into the Healing Center, and Keefe felt a new emotion radiating off her.
And for the first time, Keefe couldn't place what it was.

i couldn't sleep last night, so i wrote two chapters on paper. not my best work, since it was two am, but whatever
ill be updating again today to type up the next chapter (also because this one sucked and it was a lot shorter than the other chapters)
