Sophie woke up to find two unpleasant things.

1) She was in the Healing Center

2) Keefe was in the resting bed across from her.

At least Keefe wasn't awake. He was fast asleep, snoring softly, and had a serious case of bed hair, but Sophie knew her own had to be worse.

Looking even closer, she noticed his arm was broken and in a sling.

Peculiar.

The door the the Healing Center opened, and Sophie was greeted by a very tired-looking Mr. Forkle along with a girl she didn't recognize.

"Oh good you're awake," Mr. Forkle said, sitting down in a chair next to her bed. The girl remained standing.

"What happened," Sophie said, or at least tried to say. Her voice was raspy, as she hadn't used in in a while.

Forkle sighed, running a hand through is hair. "It's a long story, and you're much too weak to tolerate it."

Sophie scowled, but didn't argue. She had a feeling if she tried to stand right now, she would faceplant onto the shiny tile floor.

"In the meantime," he went on, "I'd like to introduce you to our newest member, Linh."

The girl offered her a shy wave, and Sophie somehow managed to return it without wincing or grimacing in pain.

"It's thanks to her and her brother that the group of you managed to make it out of Exillium alive."

Sophie lifted a brow at Mr. Forkle. Go on.

"Biana was discharged from the Healing Center a few days ago. To be honest, the two of you were in much worse condition than she was," Mr. Forkle said, glancing in Keefe's direction.

"So you're an Exillium student?" Sophie asked Linh.

She nodded. "I was banished for flooding a city." She gathered moisture in the air and started tossing her water-ball from hands hand, and Sophie finally realized.

She was a Hydrokinetic.

A powerful one at that.

"Wait--but you said she and her brother saved us?" Sophie asked, remembering what Mr. Forkle had said earlier.

"Mr. Song hasn't decided whether or not he'd like to join our cause yet. He's the most powerful Shade I've ever seen."

Huh. Two powerful siblings.

Maybe the Black Swan had a fighting chance yet.
