Chapter 5 - What's That?

Trevor P.O.V.

I awoke to the sun coming through the stained-glass window and shining it's multicolored light upon my face. I started to rub my face to get the sleep wiped from my eyes when my nose started twitching. There was an aroma that I wasn't used to floating into the room, and it smelled pretty damn good. Even Sypha stirred beside me, her nose raising higher in the air to catch the scent wafting around us.

"What is that?" Sypha asked groggily.

"I don't know, but I want whatever that is," I responded. I rose from the bed and dressed quickly just to find out what the smell was. Sypha wasn't far behind me as I moved out into the hall, but it was when Alucard came waltzing down the hall beside us to investigate, I knew that it was something strange.

"Do either of you have any idea what that is?" he asked.

"I have no idea," Sypha answered, "but its coming from the kitchen."

We all moved down the hallway sniffing the air while the smell got stronger and stronger. I then heard my own stomach growl ferociously and sped up a bit. My stomach was answered by Sypha's and Alucard's when we rounded the corner to the kitchen. The sight we beheld was gorgeous.

The table was set with a white tablecloth below a place setting for four, tableware and glasses set with care, a small platter with some kind of meat on it, a bowl with apples and oranges in it, a pot of tea, and a pitcher of water. At the stove was Y/N humming quietly to herself while moving eggs around in a pan. Without looking back, she pulled a loaf of bread out of the oven and sliced it with ease on a board to put on the table with a small pot of what looked like thickened honey sitting on the side. Once she'd finished with that, she moved the eggs around a little more before picking up the pan and dumping the contents into a bowl.

She turned with everything in hand and smiled. "Well? Sit down already. Don't want it to get cold." While we sat down to eat, she once again turned to the stove and bent down to the oven. This is where the smell had been coming from and it had all of us trying to see what it was. She deftly pulled a pan outwith the baked goods and placed it on the stove. She grabbed something that looked like a box made of strange wood, placed it next to the pan and flipped the contents of the pan into the box. She then turned to a small dish on the counter beside her. Stirring that quickly, she turned back to the box and began drizzling whatever was in that dish onto whatever she pulled out of the oven. She finished whatever she was doing, nodded her head and giggled before turning to the table and joining us.

"Come on, guys," she said with an air of exasperation. "eat. I didn't spend the last 45 minutes making this stuff just so you could ignore it." With those words, we all began reaching for food.

"Where did you get these eggs?" Sypha asked.

"I had them with me. I simply forgot about it until about four this morning."

Alucard looked at the plate of meat. "What is that?"

She smiled brightly. "That is the greatest invention in the world: bacon."

I watched as Alucard picked up a piece of it and bit off a small amount. His eyes widened before they closed and he sighed in pleasure.

"Oh yeah, that is definitely the greatest invention."

Now I HAD to try it...and I also HAD to agree. Now all of us had a portion of bacon, eggs and bread and began eating.

"Ok," Sypha asked again, "where did you get these?"

Swallowing some tea, Y/N began explaining. "You remember how I told you that I had been at the grocery store before that pink and green shit showed up?" She nodded. "I had packed everything I bought into my cart to take home. I was so out of it when I got here that I just spaced off having food on me the whole time. You guys didn't even need to go hunting last night really since I had all of this stuff."
