Chapter 14 - Doctor/Patient Confidentiality

Alucard P.O.V.

I awoke with a chill to the sun coming in my window filtered through the slightly parted curtain. I could feel the sweat beading on my skin and the sheet clinging to me in the most uncomfortable way. I wanted to sit up, but the pounding in my head made me dizzy with every attempt. All I could hope now was that Y/N would come soon.

After having that thought, I lay there startled with the idea. A few short days ago I wanted nothing to do with her and tried to keep her even further than arm's length. And here I was, laying prone in bed, almost begging for her to return to my side soon. The folly of my own stupidity left me chuckling at myself ruefully, ashamed of my own childishness. How could I have acted like I have when I already knew that all humans aren't like the betrayers? Seeing myself for the childish shit that I am, I vowed then and there to stop being such an ass and to Y/N...until she left. Somehow, that thought of her leaving soon made my heart hurt just about the same amount as my head did right now. 'I have to find away to get her to stay...or take me with her' I thought before I heard a knock on my door.

The door opened slightly to reveal Y/N's head as she checked to see if I was awake before coming into the room.

"Why did you knock?" I asked.

"Because," she said as she came over and sat on the edge of the bed, "I didn't want to disturb you if you were still sleeping. You weren't doing so well when I got you in here, so I left you to rest as much as possible before I came in here and disturbed you."

"I don't think anything you could do at this point would disturb me any more than my own pounding head can," I said on a chuckle. I was happy to know that she shared in my humor.

"That may be true, Adrian, but you still needed to get as much rest as you could. I don't know how your system will react to these meds I'm about to give you." She leaned forward to place her lips on my forehead and my eyes promptly found the gap between her skin and the shirt that bowed down to reveal the valley between her breasts. As much as I tried to remain ever the gentleman, I couldn't stop the thoughts going through my mind or the blood from rushing to my groin. It was enough to make me groan at my own failings. Unfortunately...

"Are you alright? Is your head bothering you that much?" Y/N asked with her voice laced with concern. I had closed my eyes in an effort to stop my body and mind from trotting happily through the mires of the gutter, but now that I'd opened them, I was finding it even more difficult to deal with her eyes filled with concern.

"I'm alright," I said, my teeth gritting. "I did this to myself, so I deserve every ache, pain and discomfort I get."

"Adrian," Y/N said while lifting my chin up. "You don't have to suffer through this just because you think you did something wrong. Yes, you were a dick. A massive dick."

Please. Stop saying dick. Oh, don't look down. Please?

"But just because you were a dick doesn't mean you don't deserve some relief. I'd feel bad if you felt like this much longer."

She said dick again.

She reached over to the bedside table and picked up a small packet that she proceeded to tear open and dump the contents into a waiting glass of water. I heard it fizzing and thought that there was no way she was going to offer that to me.

"Now," she said and destroyed my hopeful thought, "I want you to drink this down quickly. Don't worry about the fizzing because it's supposed to do that. It'll make your stomach feel better and make your headache and fever go away."
