"What the hell started all of this?" I asked once everyone wound down. "I mean we heard the insults and everything, but what was the reason for them?"

"It was a game," Trevor offered.

"That Trevor was losing," Y/N quickly added.

"That she was making me lose," he rebutted.

"It was not my fault that he couldn't get his ball to go straight. He was twisting at the hips and the motion sensor was picking up on that."

I looked at her face and saw the look of smug satisfaction she wore. She knew she was right and just dared Trevor to say something about it. I'm quite certain that she told the truth of the matter, but I could also see Trevor was just waiting to try to prove her wrong.

"What game is that?" Sypha asked.

"Its called bowling," Y/N responded. "Basically, the object of the game is to roll a ball down a lane and knock over pins at the end. There are ten frames with ten pins each. The one who knocks over the most pins at the end of the game wins. Simple as that."

"Then what is Trevor so upset about?" I asked. I held Y/N close and could feel her inhale when I spoke then sigh and sink further in my arms when I stopped. I tried not to smile at the small gesture that should have gone unnoticed, and probably was by the others, but to me it was one of the most precious things I've known. It was a quirk of hers that endeared her even more to me, one of about a thousand that she'd displayed from the moment she first let herself come into my life.

"I'm upset," the man in question blustered, "because that damn woman had to have done something to the game to make it even harder for me to do. I was doing fine at the beginning, but for some reason started doing shittier and shittier the longer we played. Then she started making fun of me and, yeah. You saw what happened after that."

"Seems to me you're just trying to blame your failings on someone else," Sypha blurted. She had a smile on her face when she said it, but I knew better than to trust it when it came to her speaking to that idiot.

"I am not trying to blame her without cause!" Trevor bellowed before turning to Sypha. "Want me to tickle you some more?" Sypha smiled but shook her head no.

"Instead of trying to figure out where you fucked up," Y/N said, "why don't we help put away the stuff Adrian and Sypha brought back and find out what game will be needed for dinner?"

"Are you sure you're strong enough to cook?" Trevor suddenly asked.

"Upset over a game miraculously disappears when food is involved," Sypha uttered with a dramatic eye roll.

"I may need a bit of help lifting things," Y/N said matter-of-factly, "but I can cook. I may even pull over a chair to make sure I can do it."

"Sitting in front of the stove to cook?" Sypha questioned.

"Of course. I sometimes do that at home when I've had a long day at school. Sometimes I have to stand in the computer lab because we have a shortage of chairs, plus they have this shit where you have to stand from time to time for your health. And, because of my need to finish things when I start them, I have a hard time remembering to sit down for a few minutes. So, by the time I get home, my legs feel like jelly and I have to sit down to cook a meal."

"Well, while you're doing that," I said, "I'm going to take the idiot here to go build something for the chickens we got."

"Chickens?!" Y/N shouted. I looked up and saw her looking between me and Sypha excitedly. Her bright (e/c) eyes wide and crinkled at the corners with the lines of a smile, she was practically bouncing on her toes waiting for an answer.
