I began pulling down all the books that could be helpful with Trevor trying to help. Granted, he had no idea what he was supposed to be looking for, but he was trying to make it look like he was helping so he could ask me some stupid fucking question.

"So...Adrian," he stressed my first name. I didn't have to turn around to see the stupid ass grin he would have on his face, so I simply hummed in response.

"Are you and Y/N going to sleep together soon?"

I choked on air like I was trying to swallow a chunk of glass. Sputtering coughs erupted from my chest and throat causing my eyes to water. I pounded on my chest to clear things out before I turned my blushing face toward the bastard.

"What the fuck do sleeping arrangements have to do with anything?"

He sighed. "I meant are you going to have sex with her?"

"Why the fuck would I tell you, Belmont?" I asked with an air of incredulity. "Whether or not I will have sex with Y/N or not has nothing to do with you, nor do I see any real reason why I should divulge any answers for or against the outcome. I will not cheapen my feelings to serve your animalistic mind."

"Jesus Christ, man, I wasn't asking to get in your business. I was asking because of what you told me," he responded after turning back to the shelves. "I don't know if you told her anything or not, but I was wondering if you're worried about it or if you'd even contemplated if you would or not."

I had to admit that the man, whether his asking was just to find out or out of honest concern for my feelings were is real goal, he did have a valid point when it came to my view on possible intimacy.

"Look, I'm not telling you because I don't even know what's going on myself. I mean I could bullshit you and tell you that everything will be just fine and she will be accepting of everything I tell her no matter what, but I can't do that," I said honestly. I don't know why I began telling this bastard what's going on in my mind, but it appeared that Belmont was physically becoming more relaxed the more I talked.

"I will say that I had the notion to ask her to move into my room. Since day one she's been in that library on the couch and not complained about it, but she's helped us all so much that asking her to stay in there seems like punishment more than anything."

Belmont showed the most amazing amount of intelligence and insight when he said, "I don't think you were trying to punish her for being a human. I think you were trying to punish yourself for being attracted to a human. Its not that you wanted to force her away from you, but rather that you wanted to force yourself away. Everything that happened before she got here hurt more than you realized and for you to suddenly feel something for yet another stranger scared the shit out of you."

"I know this all, but it still doesn't change the fact that I was behaving like an idiot." I dropped my head down to look at my feet because I let my pride and past experiences color my reactions.

"Yes. You are an idiot," Trevor responded with obvious humor for a moment, "but that doesn't change the fact that you are doing these things to keep yourself safe. Think of yourself more as a child who's been beaten rather than an adult who's been betrayed and you'll understand...and I think that's the way Y/N sees you, too." After his barely enlightened speech, we finished gathering the books from the laboratory and made our way back to the dining room.

I walked to the kitchen area to aid Y/N with her search to ensure that something for dinner was available. As we perused through the various bags and boxes she had, she suddenly spoke up and startled me from my own thoughts.
