I'm not sure why, but I feel like I almost cringe when I see the word 'asexual' in public. Not because it's bad, but I feel like whenever 'asexual' comes up, it's never in a good context. Not intentionally bad really, but I feel like when there's so little out there about asexuality, anything out there that is bad is very Bad.
So example:
I saw a post today about Harry Potter and the first part was that Sirius was gay, and the second part was how Remus was bi, and then how James was straight, and then the last part was that Peter was ace.
Now if any of you haven't read the Harry Potter series or forget it, Peter is a Piece Of Shit. He sold out his friend as well as his friend's wife and baby to a murderer, as well as then serving that murderer and he's basically in this place where no one likes him and everyone treats him like shit and he keeps serving the murderer, and he's just all around the most pathetic character.
And I do believe whoever made the post didn't mean to draw a parallel between asexuals and horrible people, and then this brings up another problem: the characters people headcannon as asexual are those that no one else wants. If they seem lovable, then they get a romantic and sexual love interest. And same generally if they're a major character. And in actual cannon this gets multiplied a thousand times. So anyway yeah, that's a little annoying.
And also there was a post about how Madonna stole a dance from the trans queer POC community, and OP said Madonna was 'asexualizing' the dance. And again I know it wasn't supposed to be related to asexuality, but it still makes me cringe a little. So yeah!!
Goodnight!!
