Shorter oneshot this time; I was going to have a ZIT oneshot out but ideas/motivation for that chapter went out the window, so have this instead :D

Ever since FandomsUnite05 published her oneshot Fight Or Flight, I've been listening to this song on repeat, so like all of my favorite songs I decided to write a songfic based on it. The words don't necessarily line up to the oneshot, it's more of a background ambience that adds to the story.

And for the sake of plot convenience, let's pretend there are multiple species of birds in Minecraft.

Enjoy!)

The sun shone high above the sky, tiny rays of its light peeking out from behind the dense clumps of leaves on the towering trees. A branch snapped as Doc pushed his way through the ground foliage, breathing heavily as he navigated his way through the jungle, trying to spot the red sweater amidst all the verdant hues.

From up ahead, Grian strode across the jungle effortlessly, brushing leaves and branches out of the way like second nature. "Hurry up, you slowpoke!" he called back to Doc.

The creeper hybrid grunted as a particularly thick branch whacked him square in the face. "Some of us aren't as skilled at navigating the jungle," he said between breaths. "How do you do this so often?"

"Stop complaining, you big baby! We're almost there."

After about 5 minutes of complaining--to Grian's chagrin--they stopped at the base of a tall jungle tree. "Here we are!"

Doc surveyed the tree with confusion. "Um...it looks like every other tree here."

"Just wait 'til you see the view from up top." Grian grabbed the vines hanging on the bark and started climbing. Doc groaned a bit but followed him shortly after.

Once they reached canopy level, Grian carefully moved onto a thick branch, pushing past the leaves. He grabbed Doc's hand and helped him in, pointing to a gap in the canopy. "Check this out."

Doc looked through the gap and couldn't help but gasp a little--the view was beautiful.

They were sitting on one of the tallest trees in the jungle, and the added height provided a good vantage point. From there, Doc could see a nearby lake, its calm waters reflecting the sun's illuminace. The other trees rose up at varying heights, their leaves rustling ever so slightly. The sky was a bright blue, and there were no clouds in sight. The sun shone overhead, its light bathing everything in sight.

And the birds.

There were dozens of them of all different types, chirping and squawking and hooting loudly. There were birds with red feathers, bird with sharp talons, big birds, small birds. They flew across the sky, casting brief shadows on the landscape below.

"Grian...this is spectacular."

Grian couldn't help but grin at Doc's awed expression. "Yeah? I come here sometimes, just to sit and think...and to watch the birds."

Doc couldn't hold back a jest. He ruffled Grian's dirty blonde hair, smiling a little. "Bird nerd."

Grian stuck his tongue out. "Meanie."

They sat there in silence, listening to the chirps of the birds for a bit.

"So...what are the names of these birds? Since you come here often."

Grian smiled again. "Who's the bird nerd now?"

"Hey, I'm just curious," Doc protested.

Grian let it slide for now, instead pointing to a large bird with black, white, and gray feathers. "That one's the harpy eagle." Pointing to a smaller bird that zipped around: "And a hummingbird." Then he gestured to a more recognizable bird with a greenish-yellow plumage. "And you already know the pesky bird."

"I've heard that too often," Doc replied. He took a deep breath as he looked out over the landscape again. "God, this is beautiful."

"So I've heard."

Doc glanced over at Grian, who flashed him yet another smile. He leaned back against the tree's trunk, closing his eyes and listening to the sounds of nature. The gentle breeze ruffled the leaves on the tree. If you listened closely, you could almost hear a melody hidden in the birds' chipring.

Grian joined him a minute later, leaning his head on Doc's shoulder.

"I could sit here forever."

"I could too, Grian. I could too."
