Michele's Point of View
"Claire, can you watch the twins and Chance while I do something outside," I asked my daughter.
"Yeah," she said, sitting on the couch between her siblings.
I grabbed blankets and pillows from the closet and went outside.
Once I had a nest made out of the blankets and pillows, I went inside and picked up the twins.
"Where are we going," Claire asked.
"The backyard," I said. "Can you grab Chance's hand please."
I made my way to the sliding glass door and opened it. Claire and Chance stepped out and I closed the door behind me. I made my way to the blanket nest and lied down with all four of my children.
"I never noticed how pretty the stars are," Claire said.
"When your father and I were your age we would always look up at the stars. We'd lie in his backyard and talk about space for hours," I said.
"I never knew that something as amazing and complicated as space could bring two people so close," my daughter said.
The five of us lied there in silence, just looking at the stars. I could tell Luke and Lisa were asleep. And that Chance was on the verge of passing out. I could feel Claire moving around.
"You okay Claire," I asked her.
"I'm just trying to imagine what it would be like if dad was with us right now," Claire replied.
"When your dad gets home we can do this again," I said.
"I can't wait," Claire said.
It was silent again. The sound that could be heard was the sound of us breathing.
