You returned to your seat with a bag of popcorn and a soda, stopping when your eyes landed on the guy that was sitting in the spot next to yours. He wasn’t there before you left for food, yet he looked comfortable as if he had been there for a while. He was lounging in his seat with his feet up on the back of the seat in front of him. You finally continued on to your seat, trying not to call too much attention to yourself as you casually slid into your seat. The boy did a double-take when he first noticed you. He wasn’t expecting anyone to sit there. You placed your popcorn in your lap and leaned forward to set your soda down, and when you looked back up, his eyes were on you. You shyly smiled and his mouth curled into a toothy grin.

He was wearing light-colored skinny jeans and a clunky pair of white Nike’s. His t-shirt was black, but had a white breast pocket on it. There was a black jacket draped over the back of his seat. The fringe of his blond-washed hair peeked out from underneath the black snapback that he wore. As if suddenly remembering his manners, he put his feet down and sat up straight in his seat, folding his hands in his lap. “Hi,” He said, “I’m Niall.”

He offered his hand to you and you took it. He gave your hand a powerful shake while keeping his eyes on yours. There was a grin on his face as he held onto your hand a little longer before you pulled it away. “I’m (Y/N),” You quietly told him, “Nice to meet you.” You had to force yourself to look away; his stare was too intense. His eyes were of a striking blue color that pulled you in further the longer you stared at them.

Niall continued to stare at you with a dazed grin on his face and you dropped your eyes to the ground. It wasn’t long before your friends filed in next to you, on the opposite side of Niall. You were there with two of your friends. The three of you had the weekend free, so you made plans to go to this basketball game together. Of course, you weren’t expecting to be stuck next to a very attractive guy for the whole game.

Niall sat back when your friends appeared, giving them a nod as his way of greeting them. They both beamed at him in return and the next thing he heard was a pair of squeals as they tried to get information out of you. “You didn’t tell us you were bringing a date,” One of them teased while the other asked, “What’s his name?” You turned and sent them a glare, pressing your finger to your lips in an attempt to hush them. You knew Niall could hear them; he was right next to you.

They giggled and the closest one nudged your arm and told you, “Talk to him! He’s cute.”

You glanced over at Niall to see him looking from the corner of his eye. He smiled again and you could see his face reddening as he blushed. He could definitely hear them. He lifted his snapback and ran his fingers through his hair, as if he didn’t know all three of you were staring at him. He then placed it back on his head and tried to focus his attention on the court as the game finally started to fall into place. You tried to do the same, attempting to ignore your friends as they continued to pester you about him.

Focusing on the game was proving to be more of a difficult task than you thought it would be. Your attention was stolen every time Niall moved. He couldn’t sit still very well. At some point, he moved so that he was sitting crookedly in his seat so his back was closer to you. Then he leaned forward and rested his elbows on his knees. And then he went back to sitting with his feet up on the seat in front of him because it was still empty. Finally, he shifted one last time and reclined so that his arm was draped over the back of your chair. You tensed up and giggles erupted from next to you.

This caught Niall’s attention and he noticed how he was sitting. It was like he did it unconsciously without giving it any thought. He was about to pull his arm away, but before he could, you quickly said, “No, it’s okay.” His face softened and he eased up, feeling a little more comfortable about cozying up next to you. By halftime, anyone would have guessed that you and Niall were a couple. Without exchanging any more words, he had managed to situate himself so that he was sort of leaning into you. And you found yourself leaning toward him, too. His arm was still wrapped around you and he mindlessly rubbed your shoulder with his hand. You turned and stared at him from the side. Your faces were only inches apart—that’s how close you’d gotten. He felt your stare on him and he turned his head, too, so that your eyes met.

A gentle smile played on his lips and for a split second, Niall thought about kissing you. But he was interrupted when an uproar exploded in the crowd and as if all at once, everyone’s eyes turned to you two. Your friends tugged on your arm and squealed even more, averting your attention toward the giant view of you on the screen that hung above the court. There was an outline of hearts around you and Niall and your eyes widened as you read the words, ‘Kiss Cam’ on the screen. They still do that?! You thought, feeling a panic wash over you.

People were cheering you on, and now both you and Niall were blushing. He felt warm all over and he knew he would probably make a fool out of himself, but he didn’t hesitate to grab your face and press his lips to yours. At least now he had an excuse to kiss you. You froze at first, but eventually softened up. He titled his head and went in for the kill, sliding his tongue past your lips. An innocent kiss escalated to a full make-out session so quickly that they had to turn the cameras toward another pair of strangers.

Your hands traced through his hair and he moaned against your lips, though it was hard to hear it over the noise. By now, the attention on you two was gone. When you finally pulled apart to suck in a sharp breath, your lips still lingered near his. You felt his cool breath blow across your face as he breathed heavily. A smirk tugged at his lips as he said, “Let me take you home after this. I want to kiss you in private.”
