You were smoothing your hands over the sides of your long white wedding gown when the door behind you creaked open. Without bothering to turn around, you shakily said, "What time is it, mom? How much longer?"
But you were startled when the voice that answered you was one of a male. A male that you recognized instantly. You spun around instantly when you heard Niall's voice, "I'm not your mum, but it's about eleven-thirty." You couldn't help the smile that tugged at your lips when your eyes scanned over Niall's figure. He stood with his hands on his hips, wearing a stunning black suit. His hair was done up, with a hint of the natural brown peeking out at the roots. His eyes were a striking blue color against the intense black of his suit. "You look beautiful, darlin'," Niall said to you, catching his bottom lip between his teeth. You glanced down at your outfit, as if forgetting that you were wearing a wedding dress. A blush crept on your features and you mumbled a 'thank you.'
"So...what are you doing back here?" You curiously asked, hoping your suspicions were true. You and Niall had been close friends for a number of years. And at one point, the two of you had gotten so close that it was almost as if you were a couple. But then you got a boyfriend and it changed everything. You and Niall gradually pulled away from each other, simply because that little spark had faded, now that you were in a relationship with someone other than him. Years passed until you didn't hear from Niall at all. Now, on your wedding day, was the first time you'd seen him in a long time.
He swiped his tongue over his lips and leaned against the wall. He crossed his legs at his ankles as he stood. "I asked your mum where you'd be," He explained, "And she told me you'd be in here." You felt his eyes on you as you turned around to examine yourself in the mirror again. You could see Niall's reflection behind yours. You stared at him through the reflection. A sigh fell from your lips and you dropped your head. This wasn't right. You knew this wasn't right. Today was not your day to get married. And Niall's presence only reminded you of everything you could have had with him.
You didn't raise your head again until you felt Niall's arms around your waist. You lifted your eyes to see his blue ones staring down at you. He reached up and gently touched your face with the back of his hand. His eyes studied your face and a little smile tugged at his lips. "I hate to see you do this," He whispered, "You know I hate to see you do this."
You were feeling guilty about the whole situation. And to cover up your guilt, you resorted to anger. "What am I supposed to do about that?" You snapped up at him. He pulled away from you, startled by your sudden outburst. "You left, Niall! You left! How could we ever have a happy relationship if you were all the way across the world?" You snarled, turning away from him. You crossed your arms over your chest.
"Hey," Niall said, in a hoarse voice. You followed him with your eyes as he circled around you, coming to a stop in front of you. He pulled your arms away from your chest and folded his hands into yours. Looking into your eyes, he whispered, "I love you."
You stared at him for a moment. There was always an unspoken love between you and Niall, but to actually hear him admit it gave an incredible feeling. He pulled you into him by your hands and leaned his forehead against yours. "I'll hold you here all day if I have to," He said, with a smile on his face. You laughed as he continued, "But I am not going to let you marry someone else."
Without another moment of hesitation, Niall slowly leaned in and closed his eyes. You felt his breath blow across your skin before his lips softly connected with yours. Your hands untangled from his and instead moved to wrap around his neck. His hands settled at your waist. He kissed you gently and with care. It wasn't a hungry and lustful kiss; it was more of a loving kiss. It was much like one you would be sharing on your wedding day.
You pulled away to desperately whimper his name, "Niall." He pressed his lips to yours and you pulled away again to say, "Niall, I love you, too." He smiled and lifted you into his arms as a squeal left your lips. Carrying you bridal style, he walked right into the crowd of people that had gathered for your wedding. You were bright red as nearly everyone's eyes turned to you. This wasn't going to go over well. Among the crowd was your, well, ex-fiancé, now. You watched his eyes widen with shock. "Excuse me, everybody!" Niall shouted, "I just want to tell you that you can all go home because (Y/N) isn't getting married today anymore. She needs to go home with me and let me give her a ring first." And with that, he carried you out to his car. Everyone was left in silence as you wasted no time in climbing into Niall's car. You'd be lying if you were to say it wasn't the best decision you'd ever made in your life.
